I bought workstation pro with the virtual printer feature listed and I was using it, and now they push 17.5 which has security fixes and a fix for the bridge networking among other things and they remove a feature they sold me as part of Workstation pro 17... That is not right, they can remove it in VMWare 18 which would be a different product, sold with a different feature set, but not in a dot release.

What is going on over there that an essential feature like the microphone cant be fix then with this latest update you disable a feature that allows you to print to the host device? I've been using vmware forever and its a great product but at a loss for the mic issue now this printer problem... pls add virtual printing back and also finally resolve this mic issue.

Hi All, Im student and I have almost all my lectures in VMware workstation. As I'm using a MacBook pro with M1 chip I need to install the VMware Workstation in another VM which has Windows OS inside my mac. I really do not know the possibility of this and I would highly appreciate if anyone could assist me with this matter.

I have amd fx 8350 processor with 12 gb ram and 1 tb hard disk(not ssd). I have created some 10 vms and when i try to start few of them suddenly disk usage increases to 100%. I dont turn them all at a time, I give some time between each vm poweron. Still same issue happens. Moreover, even after sometime, after turning on my vms, same issue happens. on my host windows machine, disk usage is 100% most of the time. because of that my vmware workstation hangs and I am not able to do anything. I have to wait till disk utilization is free again. I have disabled windows search on my host machine but no luck.

This setting can increased the performance. My host is a 64 bit Linux pc with BFS and the timer is at 1500hz. My pc has 6GB physical ram and I created a 5GB ramdisk but it should also work with only 2GB of physical ram. tmpfs seems to dynamically allocate wanted ram. host.cpukHz needs to be exactly the host box cpu speed. mem.ShareScanThreshold needs to be exactly the guest box ram size. Start the guest box and install the vmware tools and let it install the virtual drivers for the hardisk, video card and so on. I've created a guest box with Windows XP SP3 OS and it works like a charm. It could be a little faster but my box is cpu limited. It's only a 2.2Ghz 64 bit dual core cpu and it's doesn't support hyperthreading. It's also good if the guest box has enough ram (2GB).

I've got the same problem on a Fedora 34 system. All kernels starting with 5.12 show the problem, going back to 5.11.21-300 and the issue pretty much disappears. When this happens, kcompactd0 goes to 100% cpu use and the virtual is unresponsive (you can move the cursor but not get any other response). At the same time, the vmware process for the virtual goes to basicallly 100% * cpu cores (i.e. if you have 2 cpu cores in the virtual it will sit at 200% or so). When kcompactd0 goes back below 100%, which can sometime take minutes, the virtual comes back but it often happens again fairly quickly. Strangely, at times with the newer kernels you can run for quite a while without the issue.

Thanks, but I've tried it and it doesn't help with the latest kernels in Fedora 34 (I've tried it through all of them up to the current 5.15.4-101.fc34.x86_64). The 5.15.4-101.fc34.x86_64 is the last kernel vmware has worked reliably with on this system. I don't believe it is actual memory - the system has 6G of memory with 2G (and later 3G) allocated to the windows 10 virtual. I've also tried changing the vmware preference for reserved memory to 4096MB but that didn't help.

I'm going to try converting the virtual to a kvm virtual and see if it fixes it. This is an old system with a "Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz" CPU, which is currently one of the oldest supported by vmware. It is possible there is something with it that is causing the issue.

I have this problem too, and the problem seem to be hitting systems running Ubuntu as host somewhat reliably. I find it would be in the intrest of vmware to finda permanent solution with Ubuntu, alternative upstream with kernel developers. For every user that find the correct tweak there will be plenty that just give up.

After scraping through several other posts relating to the similar issues I am experience, I will keep this brief. I've implemented one of the solutions (powercfg /powerthrottling disable /path "C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation\x64\vmware-vmx.exe") which has fixed half of the issues such as booting/shutting down and application start up. However I still have 2 noteworthy issues: severe latency/input delay with using something basic as a terminal or typing this post and trying to drag & drop files from my host machine onto/into my VMs desktop and desktop directory with no results other than an odd "shadow" of the file that can be visually seen on the desktop GUI but not seen in the file directory or terminal (yet it can be dragged and dropped into any other directory I've tried so far and it is successful). Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Another option is "power on to firmware", try it, it goes to the BIOS. It's in the menu when right clicking a VM, or in the VM menu at the top. And in some versions of vmware workstation it's "power on to BIOS". In my version it's "power on to firmware" but it goes to the BIOS

It is not support by Aruba officially but you can install it on vmware workstation. After installation, before powering up the VM, edit the VM and just add another hard drive with 80Gb or more capacity. You are good to go!

Yes, how difficult is it to try the upgrade out before GA? If you expect every one to terminate vmware.exe process from task manager (Note that there is the option for single process and ALL process. If you terminate ALL vmware.exe processes, even the upgrade process is terminated) then you might want to declare that in big bold letters next time BEFORE the update is downloaded to everyone's system? Idiots.

Yes same here with 17.0.2. That said, I think Workstation has had this problem for years. I had to kill vmware.exe manually after making sure all VMs (inc. auto start one) was shutdown. Surely they just need to spawn a separate process to do the update which would allow you to close the console?

I typed this into the run command and rebooted my laptop. i opened up the vmware.log again and it still says Monitor Mode: ULM.

Is the log file update every time VMWare is opened, because maybe I'm seeing the previous log before I did the bcdedit.

I have had Windows 10 installed as VM workstation 11 since November last year and it has been updating fine. A couple of months ago i tried to join Microsoft Insider Program, but each time i tried to install a new version of insider it gets to around 28% reboots and fails. Windows then reverts back to previous build. So i decided to remove the insider releases but again updates fail - including the recent anniversary update that i tried automatically and manual.

I can (manually) open them using File->Open... and selecting the .vagrant\machines\puppet\vmware_workstation\some-unique-id...vmx file. But that's a bit annoying. Using VirtualBox, vagrant VMs are automatically added and removed from the Virtualbox GUI.

Thank you for the guide! I almost gave up on my recently purchased workstation pro 17. You're phase 3 definitely helps since none of Phase 1 and 2 works on Windows 11 Pro 22H2. After running the PowerShell script (more instruction in the Readme.txt from the downloaded zip file), the reboot will prompt and just need to press F3 to disable both the DG/CG.

I've downloaded the free version of the vmware server and found it ok, I have it configured and running a single instance of windows (I'll eventually add a couple more in time) but I'm more used to the interface that of vmware fusion on my mac. Also it appears there's a lot more services being started up for vmware server that I may or may not need since I'm looking to run on a single desktop.

After the latest kernel update in the distro I use, which updated me to Kernel 6.5.4, Workstation 17 Player will not load. I get the message about needing to recompile the kernel with vmmon and vmnet (I think it was) but when I try to do this it fails. I went to the command line and ran the "sudo vmware-modconfig --console --install-all" which also failed. The only way I was able to get workstation to run was to revert back to Kernel 6.4.6. I checked for any software updates when it was running but there is nothing to update at this time.

Just in case someone is looking to fix this error depending on the use case. Here is a link describing the two scenarios and methods to run hyperV on a VMware Workstation: -workstation-player-enabling-hyper-v/

You can also specify which network card to use(in case you have multiple) in the virtual network configurator:

Unfortunately, this option is only available in the VMWare16 workstation, not in the Player

trying to deploy for testing purpose, F5 Version: 16.1.4.1 Build 0.0.5 on vmware workstation pro and connecting network cards as in host only mode, these don't seem to work, although the first card I connected for management responds to me and allows me to arrive on the apparatus.

for example the same configuration on other appliances such as fortigate works for me and I can see and use all the cards.

Installed R80.10 management only running on VM workstation, 6GIG (8GIG suggested), 4 Core, using RHEL 5 - 64bit, 60GIG HDD (100GIG suggested). Once you get the "LOGIN" prompt, another 3,4,5 minutes to get access to the WEBui is needed. 0852c4b9a8
