"Call Me Maybe" was written by Jepsen and Crowe, with additional writing and song production by Josh Ramsay.[10] Lyrically, the song describes the "infatuation and inconvenience of a love at first sight," as described by Bill Lamb of About.com.[16] During the pre-chorus, Jepsen states how she suddenly becomes attracted to a person, singing, "Your stare was holding, ripped jeans, skin was showing/Hot night, wind was blowing/Where you think you're going, baby?"[18] As the chorus begins, the background incorporates synthesized string chords, and Jepsen explains that her feelings towards the guy are unexpected, "Hey, I just met you/And this is crazy/But here's my number/So call me maybe."[16][19]

Carly Rae Jepsen: [singing] Before you came into my life, I missed you so bad. I missed you so bad, I missed you so, so bad. Before you came into my life, I missed you so bad. And you should know that, So call me maybe.

Hey I just met you, And this is crazy, But here's my number, So call me maybe, And all the other boys, Try to chase me, But here's my number, So call me maybe: Jepsen reverts to her comfort zone by repeating the chorus again here, but it is notable that she chooses to emphasize in her final chorus that other boys continue to try and chase her. She seems still unsure that he will call her and is desperate to make herself seem as desirable as possible in the waning moments of the song.

When writing with Crowe, Jepsen considered re-writing the words to the chorus, including the "call me maybe" hook, as she thought it was "too silly" and simply imagined them as filler lyrics to find the melody. She was persuaded otherwise by Tavish, who suggested they run with the "tongue-in-cheek" nature of the song. [5][6]

It's a catchy song, for sure. But Carley Rae Jepsen's call me maybe is made even better when it is lip synched and danced to by members of the Harvard Men's Baseball team. Check out the video to see what I mean.
