The Game Boy Advance port of Super Mario Bros. holds an aggregate score of 84 on Metacritic.[120] Many critics compared the port to previous ports of the game such as Super Mario Deluxe and Super Mario All-Stars, noting its seeming lack of brand new content to separate it from the original version of the game. Jeremy Parish of 1up.com called the game "The most fun you'll ever have while being robbed blind", ultimately giving the game a score of 80% and praising its larger-scaling screen compared to Deluxe while greatly criticizing its lack of new features.[145] IGN's Craig Harris labeled the game as a "must-have", but also mused "just don't expect much more than the original NES game repackaged on a tiny GBA cart."[146] GameSpot gave the port a 6.8 out of 10, generally praising the gameplay but musing that the port's graphical and technical differences from the original version of the game "prevent this reissue from being as super as the original game."[147]

In an incredible feat of game industry continuity, all five of them are still credited on Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Miyamoto served as supervisor, with Tezuka as producer, Nakago as a special level design advisor, and Kondo as sound director. Morita, meanwhile, is in the special thanks section. With four of the five original devs serving in major supervisory roles 38 years later, this might just be the most incredible piece of developer continuity in gaming history.

I'm more of a Mega Man and Castlevania guy, but I do love to play Mario games ever now and again. I don't play them constantly like Mega Man or Castlevania, but it's nice to play them ever 5-6 months. 3D Mario games like Mario 64 or the galaxy games are games I complete once a year.

Nineteen years ago, Nintendo revitalized a crashed-out home console market with the release of its first console, the Nintendo Entertainment System. The 8-bit machine debuted in 1985 and rode to mainstream success on the back of the world's most famous video game carpenter-turned-plumber, Mario. Released alongside the NES, Super Mario Bros. was a landmark event in the history of gaming. It got games off of one or two static screens and made the 2D, scrolling platformer the world's most popular genre. Now, in 2004, Nintendo is rereleasing some of the early games that helped make Nintendo a household word. Of course, Super Mario Bros. is there leading the pack. The classic platformer holds up pretty well after all this time, though some minor technical issues prevent this reissue from being as super as the original game. 0852c4b9a8
