Rooftop Prince (Korean:  ; RR: Oktapbang Wangseja) is a 2012 South Korean fantasy romantic comedy television drama, starring Park Yoo-chun, Han Ji-min,[1] Jeong Yu-mi, Lee Tae-sung, Lee Tae-ri, Jung Suk-won, and Choi Woo-shik. It is about a Joseon crown prince who, after his wife dies mysteriously, time travels to the future where he encounters familiar faces, modern-day devices, and corporate intrigue.[2] The series aired on SBS from March 21 to May 24, 2012 on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 21:55 for 20 episodes. It is available on Netflix.[3][4]

Many also complain about the prince living alone for the rest of his live without Bu-yong. But he has to suffer the same as Bu-yong if you think about it. She was longing for him all her life till the day she died. And now he has the same fate. So yes, they both lived a sad life in Joseon, but they can finally be together happy in the modern timeline.

While investigating the mysterious death of his wife, a Joseon prince is transported 300 years into the future to modern-day Seoul. There, he meets a woman who looks uncannily like his wife and decides to stick around in the future until he discovers the truth about the past.

Se-na gives Yi Gak a ride home, and Park-ha watches them say their goodbyes from her rooftop vantage point. Thus her mood is grim when he comes home and greets her; she leaves in the middle of his greeting, ignoring him.

I think the primal reason Se-Na hates Park Ha is in the first episode where Joseon era Se-Na thought she will be promised to marry the Crown Prince because she was the older one and she was disappointed when she found out that her little sister will be the one who will marry him. And that's how her ambitious and selfish nature made her to wish something bad happen to little sis not to be able to marry the prince anymore so that she could take the place .And her hatred begins and so the KARMA remained with the reincarnated soul of Se-Na. She hates her just because...the ancient feeling at the beginning and now because SHE THINKS that Park Ha stays in her way.

There must be a conspiracy going on at that time - something like the crown princess was having an affair and being discovered by the King? or her father? and being knocked-off making it look like an accident or killed by her lover. I too think the dead is the crown princess.

Now what I find myself fussing about is how RTP will end. Will they go back, and if so, is Park Ha included? Or will Yi gak stay with her in present time? Then again, she can't go back with him because her reincarnated, maimed self still exists there (unless the younger princess is the pond floater) and now we're talking 'Time Cop' stuff about the impossibility of a person existing in two planes, meeting up.

Plus, present day Se Na seems to be a LOT bitchier than Joseon-era Se Na ever was - that one really seemed to love her Prince, despite the way she got him. I can only hope that the writers are going to lay out the ending in black and white for us. I hate confused endings.

:)

what if Yi Gak goes back just before the death of the 'princess' and saves Bu Yong from death. (by this time, he would have known that Bu Yong/Bak Ha is his destined one, knows about the evil Se Na and Tae Mu).

I don't know if I'm the only one confused here, but I don't get Man Bo's explanation about having to meet "that person" (Se Na) in order to return to Joseon. How did he established that she was the key? And how does meeting the reincarnation of the crown princess will lead them to solve her murder?

maybe making history repeat itself?

Lee Gak marries Se Na

Presumably someone will try to murder her but before it happens the boys figure out who (presumably the same person because the worlds are mirrored?)

and when that happens they can go back?

Maybe Tae Mu got jealous in the past and tried to kill the prince but the princess ended up dying?

So this time Tae Mu tries to off Tae Yong but offs Se Na instead???

as for my pov..i think the boys time travelled cause Yi Gak needs to realised the he married the wrong girl from the very beginning and the crown princess was not murdered at all. As soon as he realises that, then he can go back to his time and meet Bu-young in a different light. Of course revalations comes from the present time such as, Park Ha being the younger sister to Sena. Sena being the manipulative evil sister.

As much as I love this series, I keep thinking of present day Se-Na and Park Ha as different individuals from the princesses in the Joseon era. Although they look the same, I think of the girls as four different individuals. I guess it has got to do with the lack of Joseon scenes available from the two princesses that will help draw similarities between the modern and ancient characters.

What if the princess in the lake was never Se Na to begin with. It was Bu Yong and Yi Gak never got the opportunity to find out. Therefore, his intentions in this modern era is not accurate to begin with.

And somehow in episode 19 Park Ha is pushed into a lake by the evil Se Na and Yi Gak jumps in to save her transporting him back to the Joseon era and ergo saving Bu Yong realising that the person pushing her is evil princess Se Na from the past.

A Joseon era prince, Lee Gak (Park Yoo Chun) is catapulted 300 years into his future to Seoul 2012 with his entourage when he tries to investigate the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of his princess. In the present, he tries to adjust to life in the modern world and finds that there are many people who look eerily similar to the people from his timeline.

Lee-gak returns to his minions to discuss with them the problems facing them. There are two. First, they need to get use to living in modern day Seoul. Second, they need to keep and protect the rooftop apartment. The only way to do that is to cut their hair.

After this, the prince is convinced more than ever that the only way for things to get easier for all of them is to cut their hair. But before they get their hair cut, they want to take a memorial photo with Park-ha before she leaves for the US.

This drama is amazing and you have NO idea how much I cried at the ending. I love the ending scene on the rooftop because it was just so beautifully done and symbolic. I like that the ending was unpredictable but I still prefer if they have a happy ending. I personally prefer Lee Gak and Park Ha together because they share so many experience together but I guess the ancient Korea would be messed up without a king:(

i was so heart-broken with the love of Buyong and i cried so much watching the last episode, revealing how she sacrificed herself to save the prince....still cry each time i watch it...so i just had to make a mini movie to fulfill that broken piece of my heart...enjoy!!

I will completely admit I wrote this character off when I was first introduced to him. I thought Yong-sul was going to be just a boring tough guy. In the first episode he was saved by the crown prince from execution for killing the nobleman (oh and seven bodyguards as well) who killed his mother and defiled his sister. The next time we see him he is all fighting with his sw0rd. I am sorry what was I supposed to think. I know I was wrong. For being such a tough and skilled warrior, he was so awesomely awkward. I could not wait for the next scene with Yong-sul. The poor guy was always getting in trouble for saying or doing the wrong thing at the wrong time. And when it was revealed that he had a little crush on Park-ha, my heart broke a little when Yong-sul found out Park Ha was going on a blind date.

Joseon Era

-Princess and her lover (joseon TaeMoo) decide to kill prince (with poisoning his dinner)

-but Bu Yong realise their plan

-she sacrifice herself to rescue her love and eat it instead of him and after poison affect her body she fall to pond!

Both the riddle and the lyrics of the songs give us the answer to the ending. I was hoping that at least they would have given more than two episodes toward them returning to joseon period. The princess was the one to die in the joseon period and will also die here. There has to be a happy ending for both of them. One of the songs talks about them loving each other forever and how people saw something like that before.
