The shortcutkey for orbit tool is Ctrl+7, but when I use that I just get the classic orbit. This must be an error, so is there an alernative shortcut or a way to set that to get the "correct" version?

Having all kinds of problems with orbit since I installed the new release. I've always used the shift key & mouse method but now the model will just suddenly fly off the screen when rotating. Also, there are times orbit will throw the model off the screen after I've released the shift key and mouse button. This has all come about with the new release. Any thoughts anyone?

Are you setting the pivot point when orbiting? To do this, hold shift and then press and release the middle mouse button. You will note a small red dot will appear on screen to represent the pivot point. Now when you hold shift and the middle mouse button, you will rotate about this point during orbit.

Possibe Bug? I dont like to hold down the shift key when orbiting, so I changed my method to that of Solidworks. Thanks a bunch for the tip by the way of quick click while holding down shift to set the pivit point.

I must admit that I don't notice such things. Everyone is different. As you may know, I teach at the local community college at night. I have 33 Inventor beginner students in my class right now, some of them are SW pros, and they are all learning Inventor, SW, and ACAD simultaneously. And yet nobody has ever complained about orbit modes. In 8 years of teaching Inventor I've never heard a complaint like this. So my experience is that people tend to be flexible and adapt to each tool.

So I guess if you truly want to emulate what SWX does, then maybe you don't want to have an explicit function to set the pivot point for free orbit. And from that perpective the aforementioned bug is not really a bug. Either way, all I care about is that in SWX mode the orbit behaves like it would in SWX.

Technically, yes, a bug has been logged. And techincally yes, it is never going to be fixed because the new work to actually improve the orbit modes supercedes it. The "bug" report is one of the things that drove the work on the "improvement". It's all related. As a QA, my humble opinion is that it was never a bug and always an improvement. As I said previously, my opinion doesn't matter because you, the customer, feels that it's a bug.

This would be ideal for me. Move mouse over where I want the pivot to be, and middle mouse click and orbit. I switched to the Fusion setting now that I know you can set the pivot. I dont mind having to use the shift key. Bug or feature, doesnt matter I guess, people always adapt. 0852c4b9a8
