1. How do I get updates?

All JDownloader changes are released via our custom built update system.

By default, the update button will start flashing once updates are available and they will be installed automatically the next time you close/restart JD or once you click the update button.

Small "plugin updates" are sometimes auto-installed in the background without any notification and do not require an application restart.

Smaller plugin updates can get released without a change of the build number displayed in GUI.

2. When do I receive updates e.g. after my support request has been closed or marked as 'Solved'?

Plugin updates generally become available within 0-5 minutes after the programmer commits work to svn.jdownloader.org, updates are then downloaded, installed silently with no user notification and are available to use without client restart!

Updates to non-plugin components require a "Core update". When Core update is released, default behaviour is for the client to pre-download, and indicate via flashing update button that an update is available to install. If you don't use any of these notifications, update will install on exit/close of application. JDownloader restart is required for core components to become available.

Core updates are not released every day!

In some cases, Core-Updates will be required for plugin changes too which can lead to delayed updates of single plugins while updates for other plugins are released at the same time.

Please do not ask repeatedly - wait until you receive an update which requires a JDownloader restart and only contact us again if you reported issue/suggested feature is still not fixed or working as expected!

3. Okay but I waited several days or more and there are no updates, why??

We call this a "build block".

Why does this happen? Unreleased Core components are required within Plugins, and creates this 'build block'.

Core updates can at times take many days to weeks to be released publicly, due to development schedule and testing.

We do not provide ETA for Core updates to be released, you will need to wait!

I think ffmpeg may have been installed via the Q4OS welcome screen / Install Proprietary Codecs or possibly during one of the Desktop Profilers I tried: I originally tried the Full feature Desktop but it failed (even after waiting for a substantial time between attempts, as advised), a few times..., then I successfully ran the Basic Q4OS Desktop which probably suits me better anyway. I'm guessing how ffmpeg came to be installed because I know I didn't directly install it myself until I had issues with jdownloader. I;m guessin 'cos I'm a Q4OS noob, maybe one of you more seasoned users can enlighten me?

Note: as jdownloader has the dependency on ffmpeg (to convert the video when a different variant is chosen to download), I always made sure that ffmpeg was installed prior to installing jdownloader... kinda common sense.

I have one last method to try which is to install JDownloader 2 Adware-free Setup (JDownloader2Setup_unix_nojre.sh) from the offical jdownloader.org/jdownloader2 download page (using the linux variant of course). I'll update this entry with the results.

Turns out it was the simplest of issues... the dialogue was not being displayed comletely so I couldnt see the option to click on a button to install ffmpeg.

If you look at the two attachments on the original post the jdownloader2-ffmpeg-missing-dialogue-cropped.png image shows how the dialogue presented to me and the jdownloader2-ffmpeg-missing-dialogue.png shows how it should have looked.

I ran through it so many times, not being able to see where to click until for some reason I decided to tro to move the dialogue and low and behold it "popped out" so I could see the button.

I'm using JDownloader headless version on a machine. This headless install connects to my.jdownloader.org and chats backwards and forwards in order to allow you to remotely manage the JDownloader tasks.

For some time, and unfortunately I can't recall when, the UI fails to load. The issue manifests as the main UI loading but the specifics of the instance fails to load. The process eventually times out and returns to the my.jdownloader.org homepage. The instance dials home as I can see in the dashboard, I just can't connect/load that instance through the UI.

One thing is that JDownloader makes DNS requests which resolve back to a local address.

e.g.

192-168-86-250.mydns.jdownloader.org resolves to 192.168.86.250

127-0-0-1.mydns.jdownloader.org resolves to 127.0.0.1

Is this jdownloader2 able to download this? If so how do I do it as when I want to download I have 2 icons (downloaders icons) to choose from. How would I get the link to work on jdownloader2? Would a copy and paste work? If so how do I put the file on there to download it.

In Eclipse's Package Explorer tab, navigate your project so that you expand the src folder, navigate to the JDownloader project and expand it. Now expand the src folder, then expand the org.jdownloader.startup folder and find the Main.java file (JDownloader Project -> src -> org.jdownloader.startup -> Main.java). Right-click on it, select Run As and and open the Run Configuration.A Run Configurations menu will open Select Java Application on the left side of the menu and click on the "New launch configuration" button above.  Select the Arguments tab, and where it says "VM arguments:" enter the JVM Parameter -Xmx512m [If you do not do this you will get a memory error when you attempt to run]Add -debug -n in Program Arguments. This will always run a new instance (-n) and enable extended debugging logs (-debug)

Go to File Station and open the docker folder. Inside the docker folder, create one new folder and name it jdownloader2. Follow the instructions in the image below.

Note: Be careful to enter only lowercase, not uppercase letters.

Now create two new folders inside the jdownloader2 folder that you have previously created at STEP 3 and name them config and output. Follow the instructions in the image below.

Note: Be careful to enter only lowercase, not uppercase letters.

Here are the brief usage detailsLaunch JDownloader Password Decryptor It will automatically detect JDownloader accounts file (org.jdownloader.settings.AccountSettings.accounts.ejs)To manually select different file, click on 'Browse' button & select JDownloader Accounts File Next click on 'Start Recovery' button. It will recover all the passwords by JDownloader will be recovered as shown in screenshot belowFinally you can save all recovered password list to HTML by clicking on 'Save Report' button

I was wondering what the best way to handle jdownloader or other download managers? Are they treated as seperate apps? Is the only way to deal with this via QoS policies? I'd love to hear about your experiences.

I have a question, by chance do not already have the portable version of jdownloader beta 2, or we have to wait out the final version? since the website is now available on the beta installer.
