Nicki Minaj is back at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this week. The rapper owns the ranking of the most-consumed albums in the U.S. with her long-awaited new release, Pink Friday 2. The set instantly opens atop the tally, and it helps the superstar make history on the competitive and important list.

In between Pink Friday and its sequel, Minaj has conquered the Billboard 200 just one other time. In 2012, her sophomore set Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded also hit No. 1. Several other collections, including her albums Queen and The Pinkprint, have stalled one rung shy of ruling over the tally.

Pink Friday 2 opens at No. 1 with 228,000 equivalent album units. That sum includes 92,000 pure purchases, but the title really succeeded best on streaming platforms. The songs featured on the new project earned nearly 170 million plays on Spotify and other sites, and all those listens helped the title shoot straight to the top spot.

In between the releases of her second and third albums, Nicki starred as a judge on American Idol, and released a reissue of her second album in November 2012, filling it with ten new hip-hop tracks and promoting it throughout the following year.

As of April 2022, Nicki has charted 125 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, the second-most for a female artist and the seventh-most out of all artists. She has garnered ten Grammy award nominations and fourteen MTV Video Music Award nominations, winning five of the latter. She has 113 million RIAA certified units, comprised of mostly singles with 8.5 million albums sold.

Hey there, Barbz! There's been enough time since the release of Pink Friday 2 that we feel confident finally doing a definitive ranking of Nicki Minaj's albums. What separates Nicki from the pack of talented female rappers these days is her variety in sound, character, and wordplay. Sure: Minaj has some of the best singles out there. But it's the flow of her albums where she really goes deep and tells compelling, dynamic stories.

We know: we're not happy about this, either. We're not saying Nicki's most recent project is bad by any means. We're just saying that for an album the Barbz had been anticipating for five years, Pink Friday 2 fell a little flat. It probably didn't help some of the singles on it, like "Super Freaky Girl" and "Red Ruby Da Sleaze," had already been out for months prior to the record's release.

In the middle of the list, we've got the last of the albums bearing the Pink Friday title. This is where Nicki really started to experiment with her work. This record isn't 100% perfect, but many of the risks Nicki took with this project paid off. We're talking about the dark, alien rave sound of "Starships," the pure sass on "Beez in the Trap," and the poetic craziness that is "Roman Holiday." God, do we love "Roman Holiday." The whole thing is such a theatrical experience.

This gave us classics like "Anaconda," "Feeling Myself" (with the one and only Beyonc), and "Pills N Potions." To be honest, The Pinkprint isn't so much an album with standout singles than it is a well-structured collection of vulnerable tracks. We get to learn all about Nicki Lewinsky, Roman Zolanski, the Female Weezy, and the Harajuku Barbie on her other projects. But this is an album where we learn about the real Onika Maraj and how emotionally exhausted she is.

The fact that these two life-changing incidents took place so close together, and that, as a result, her father never got to meet his grandson, is the emotional center of Pink Friday 2. Papa Bear makes the first sounds you hear on the album, as opener "Are You Gone Already" examines how birth and death overlapped. The two album closers, "Last Time I Saw You" and "Just The Memories," deal with some of these same issues as well, and are equally affecting.

She's like, "David, why don't you stay with us? We have two more days to finish the album." I'm like, "Of course," and there I am making hip-hop beats. We did a few records, one of them being "Make My Day" with a sample of "Pump the Jam" for her album. And we did another one with a sample of James Brown called "Man's World." I really love that record.

I didn't go to the studio thinking I'm gonna ask her that. I just did it because I thought she was amazing and I was super happy to help her with the album. I'm sure she's going to be a massive artist, and she jumped on my record.

The Harajuku Barbie is back with a new album, Pink Friday 2, which landed Dec. 8. How will tunes like "Super Freaky Girl" and "Last Time I Saw You" translate to the stage? Don't miss her North American and European tour, which stretches from late March to early June.

Following Dove Cameron's viral, platinum-certified 2022 hit "Boyfriend," expectations were high for the artist's first studio album. The singer and actress will release Alchemical: Vol. 1 at the top of the month.

Eight years after This Mixtape Is Fire, Dillon Francis' latest "turned out better than I could have ever imagined," the DJ and producer shared on Instagram about his forthcoming album, This Mixtape Is Fire TOO.

"The whole goal of this album was to make amazing songs with artists I love and respect," he added. The 14-track record features several 2022 singles, such as "Free" with Alesso and Clementine Douglas, "LA On Acid" with Good Times Ahead, "Pretty People" with INJI, "Don't Let Me Let Go" with Illenium and Evan Giia and "buttons!" with Knock2.

The end-of-year celebrations will start early for Alicia Keys and her fans. On Dec. 1, the 15-time GRAMMY winner will release a special version of her multiplatinum sophomore album, The Diary of Alicia Keys, in order to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

The Canadian singer has also announced an eponymous tour in support of the new album. McRae will visit Europe and North America from April to August 2024, bringing it to a close in Oceania throughout November.

Minaj then released the third single, Last Time I Saw You which peaked at number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100. Pink Friday 2 was released on December 8, 2023, and 15/22 of its tracks charted on the Billboard Hot 100 during its debut week. 0852c4b9a8
