The Game Boy Advance port of Super Mario Bros. holds an aggregate score of 84 on Metacritic.[120] Many critics compared the port to previous ports of the game such as Super Mario Deluxe and Super Mario All-Stars, noting its seeming lack of brand new content to separate it from the original version of the game. Lead creatures designer and supervisor Patrick Tatopoulos was aware of the concurrent Jurassic Park production, so he consciously designed the dinosaurs for Super Mario Bros. to be more cute and cartoon-like with inspiration from Beetlejuice.[20] Tatopoulos described Yoshi as "an abstract, fantasy T. rex",[25] and designed the baby dinosaur with large eyes to evoke a softer and less menacing quality.[20] Lead SFX sculptor Mark Maitre compared Yoshi to a cross between "a Tyrannosaurus Rex and an iguana".[25] Four versions of the Yoshi puppet were built: a stand-in, a wireless model, a half-puppet for the tongue, and a fully functional model. The fully functional puppet utilized 70 cables and nine operators, costing $500,000 (equivalent to $1,086,000 in 2023).[25][20] Producers from Jurassic Park visited the set and were so impressed with the Yoshi puppet they briefly considered hiring its engineers for a second Jurassic Park creatures shop.[38] Originally, the Goombas were only background characters, but their final designs were so impressive that directors Morton and Jankel promoted them to main characters with major stunts.[25][20]

Currently it is simple impossible to create games like mario, turrican or other 8bit titles. Which is sad..

The Good

This game started it all for me. I was too young to really get into the Atari. By the time I was 3, this game was already all over the place. It was my first true video game experience. It's hard to explain what it meant to me and my development. Psychologists would say something to do with learning to deal with addiction for the first time. It was the most intuitive, most fun, most satisfying, and most popular game of its time. I grew up with Mario, and I can not imagine my life without him.


The Bad

Those hammer bros in world 8 - 3 always got on my nerves. And once you've beaten the game all the way through twice in a row, it becomes infinite. It never really lets you stop, no matter how good you are. Also, the NES version (as with a lot of NES games that were also arcade games) doesn't save your high score like at the arcades.


The Bottom Line

I think it is beyond my capacity to describe this game to people who haven't played it thousands of times - for it has had such an impact upon the very nature of my being, I have difficult theorizing what it must be like to have been introduced to video games in different circumstances. 0852c4b9a8
