Among the incredible ways to enjoy music across a range of devices, including a wide variety of models from the new iPhone SE to the latest iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone is the best device for streaming Apple Music or storing an entire music library on the go. Apple Watch and AirPods are the perfect companion, allowing users to access over 90 million songs right from their wrist, starting at just $279 with Apple Watch SE. iPad starts at just $329, comes with a more powerful chip, larger display and the latest iPadOS features. And for the best way to enjoy music at home, HomePod mini is just $99.

I've found a lot on the web about being able to manage your iPod through Ubuntu. Is it possible to take songs off the ipod onto disk in a usable form, as my song drive has crashed1 and that's the only back up I have.

The standard Ubuntu music player, Rhythmbox, is able to do that. Just select all the songs/artists you want to copy from your iPod and drag them to the Music tab under Library (all on the left hand side). Once it's done, you can find them in the folder that's under "music library" (edit > preferences > music). Rhythmbox also syncs. I don't use that myself but that might be even easier.

same problem here.....I have itunes 11.0.1 and couple of ipod classics (120GB and 160GB). I can see the devices in the itunes interface when connected but cannot see the contents (so cannot delete songs). Any ideas anyone????

The guy on the phone was telling me to do things, which anyone who's not dumb enough, would have tried already, such as selecting 'Manually manage music and videos' under the summary tag. And I did specifically mentioned that I sycned my whole libray for the sake of convenience as I didn't want to go through my library of 24 GB.

I recently moved computers and don't have all my music in my iTunes (and honestly don't need it there anymore). I have all my music on my iPod and while I know how to get the music files off of it, they are encrypted. Is there a way to decrypt my music files to their original names so I can then back them up to my external hard drive?

If you have "copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library" and "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized" checked in advanced preferences, it should rename the files and put them in folders by artist in your music folder when you add the files to iTunes.

I know this was asked long ago, but maybe this will help someone in the future. In 2018 I created a python utility to fix this (it changes any m4a files to mp3 however because that's the only way I could readily read the id3 tags). It also takes all of your songs from into their respective F## (eg. F12, some default storage for the ipod) folders and sorts them by the artist according to the id3 tags.

is there ever going to be any sort of integration with ipod nano or classic with spotify? i totally understand the reasons for why its not possible at this time, but it sounds like its nothing but a software update or a software rewrite. I just want to kindly add my suggestion to your guy's queue of suggestions for future spotify updates

Also it is worth noting that you can not transfer music from the online Spotify catalogue to iPods that do not support the spotify application thats nanos, classics and shuffles. The spotify client can only be used to sync local tracks that you own to those devices.

I have read the question below and I think I have kind of a similar issue..........Yesterday I connected my ipod to my spotify account for first time, and of course the program asked if I want to sync to ipod up........and I said YES....the big problem was that ALL my music moved from my ipod to the spotify library, so now I have an empty ipod....and thats a nightmare!!

I need HELP!!!!! I have a premium spotify account. I created it so that I could use it for work. I had to put together some playlists for a party. I purchased the new 7th generation nano ipod thinking I could sync my the playlists i created on spotify with it but I realized after reading through these forums that you can't do it with the new nano. Well I plugged in my old shuffle and it actually recognized my device and allows me to sync local files but it says the playlists i created for the party are not local. What does that mean. I have a premium account doesn't that mean I can put them on my ipod and listen to them? I don't understand what the point in having a premium account is if you can't do that. Am I doing something wrong? Should I just go out and buy the ipod touch and download the spotify app? PLEASE HELLP ASAP I need to find a solution before work on Wednesday. Thank YOU!

Just to make sure I am completely clear. The only apple products which will allow me to synch all free music which I have playlisted using a premium account (and therefore indirectly paid for the music) are he iPad, the iPhone and the iPod Touch. I cannot synch free music to an iPod Nano?

Much of my local music is greyed out (not within Spotify's catalogue presumably), and so when I try to manually place these songs which ARE locally stored on my computer, I am only able to transfer a select few songs. I also am unable to select individual tracks from the 'local' playlist or fiddle with the playlist once it's on the iPod (it's a newer generation of the shuffle, very minimal interface on the iPod itself). There's minimal viewing options within Spotify for looking at what's been put on the iPod (unless I'm missing something - please help me if that's the case).

Seems like the easiest solution is to not use Spotify to put tracks on an iPod that doesn't run the Spotify software - it's just a hassle. This, however, is my only complaint about the excellent Spotify service.

Thanks, Kirk.I unchecked sync music, synced, rechecked sync music and resynced. At first that seemed to solve my problem. But then I started to see iTunes syncing songs again, and the same number I was seeing before on each sync, 141 (out of around 7500 synced to iPod Classic out of 84,000 songs in my iTunes library. There are also 15,000 podcast episodes. (I'm all set if I find myself stranded on a desert island with my Mac, iPod, and a power source)

Kirk, when you said above, "...when I synced music to iPods." that had me l taking another look at my copy of Take Control of iTunes 12, to see what i could figure out what you do instead. Do you use iCloud Music Library with on IOS for playing music on the go?

I still love my iPod Classic, which I sync music and audio podcasts via USB with iTunes 12.9.2.5. After many years of use, i have never even come close to running down the battery unless i accidentally left if playing in my pocket for a really really long time. I also sync some music and some podcasts to my iPhone 6s, for some situations. But The Classic is still my go-to portable player. I guess that makes me old-school.

My main library is on my iMac, and I don't use iCloud Music Library with it; I have a second library on my MacBook Pro which does use iCloud Music Library, so I can access music on my iPhone or iPad. I really don't want the hassle of syncing any more, especially since much of what I listen to is available from Apple Music. The MBP library contains a lot of music that isn't on APM that I do want available on my portably devices.

My situation: I use an iPhone 7 for music which I sync with my MBP via USB. I had avoided making the switch from iTunes to the new Music app for as long as possible cause I knew there would be issues. Now I've bought a new MBP which is running Monterey, so no more iTunes and hello Music app. Boy are there issues!

So I have the same main bug as Kenji reported -- every time I sync, it basically copies my entire music library over again. I have tried every solution I could find here or in the Apple support forums: I unselected sync music then synced and reselected and synced again. I checked on album artwork. I tried restoring from backup. Then I tried a factory reset. None of it helped.

Sorry if this is a bit trivial. My adoption of Roon is as a result of my quest to get rid of Apple Music, but I still need to add music to an iPhone and also an old iPod (the iPod is used in a car that has no bluetooth capability).

Hi Martin, have you tried Doppler. An app that allows you to download MP3s, FLACs, etc to your phone and play them locally. For streaming, I have a Synology NAS at home with all my music on and their DS Audio App is great (and free!)

Use the Music app to enjoy music stored on iPod touch as well as music streamed over the internet. With an optional Apple Music subscription, you can listen to millions of songs ad-free, stream and download files encoded using lossless compression, listen to thousands of Dolby Atmos tracks, and discover music together with friends. With an Apple Music Voice subscription, you can use Siri to stream any song, album, playlist, or radio station in the Apple Music catalog. 0852c4b9a8
