I have a friend who wants to use desktop Linux in her workplace, but she needs Office software. The best options I have nailed down for greatest compatibility to MS file formats are OnlyOffice and FreeOffice, but I'm not sure.

I need some particular compatibility options with MS Office. I want to use LO Writer. After an experience with copying a document from someone else, that left some GUI components in the document not showing up in LO Writer, I got uncomfortable.

My experience is that using files on both MS Office and LibreOffice is at least as compatible between using MS Office files on different versions of MS Office! For simple documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, the compatibility is quite high with MSO and LibO, in fact. The more complex the file, then the higher chance of getting some glitches. This is inevitable.

Impress: the worst degree of compatibility: if a presentation is, well, fancy (lots of objects, color transitions etc.), severe distortions are always present in my experience.

In practical terms, what this means is that older Office versions might not be able to use all the latest functionality and features of Microsoft 365 services. In addition, over time, these older versions might encounter other unexpected performance or reliability issues while using Microsoft 365 services. This situation occurs because improvements to Microsoft 365 services don't consider or test compatibility with these older Office versions.

I have Office XP (2002) installed on my netbook, which is dual boot Windows XP SP3 and Windows 8.1.

It's installed on both operating systems sharing the same Program Files subfolder.

I have the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack installed as well, which is installed in different folders on the two operating systems.

Now updates for this have ended, I am now wondering what the final updates for it were.

The reason I ask is because for quite a while before EOS I was getting updates for the compatibility pack through Microsoft Update on Windows XP, but not on Windows 8.1.

This has resulted in the Windows 8.1 installation being out of date relative to the Windows XP installation.

Does anyone know what the last update files were for the compatibility pack, for all of its files?

If I can find that information I can (hopefully!) download the updates from the Microsoft Update Catalogue and install them on Windows 8.1 to bring it up to date.

Thanks, Dave.

I do use the compatibility pack on XP to open docx. All this itteration bullcrap will one day be looked back upon by future generations and viewed as pretty dumb and unecessary. The only reason for software updates is mortages and hungry mouths. period.

The FileFormatConverters.exe file is the "Office 2007 Compatibility Pack",

the compatibilitypacksp3-kb2526297-fullfile-en-us.exe file is just the sp3.

The second does not run unless the first one is installed.

For what it's worth, I had OFfice 2003 installed for years and kept on top of the compatibility pack updates... One day, one of the updates broke Office and I said to heck with it and moved on to 2010 with a classic menu add-on.

I would like to use this opportunity to say that only the very first version (no SP) of the compatibility pack is compatible with Windows 2000 (vanilla; haven't tried later ones with the extended kernel). This version is no longer available from Microsoft though.

Starting in 2014, the LabVIEW Report Generation Toolkit is included with LabVIEW Professional. While it was previously additionally offered as an add-on product, you can only purchase this product as part of LabVIEW Professional. For information about LabVIEW and Windows compatibility, refer to LabVIEW and Microsoft Windows Compatibility.

Note: The table above shows compatibility for 32-bit version of the Report Generation Toolkit with LabVIEW and Microsoft Office products. Although compatibility for 32-bit and 64-bit are largely the same for this toolkit, some differences exist. Check the readme for your version under System Requirements >> 64-bit Version for specifics on OS and Microsoft Office Compatibility.

Keep in mind that "if" you are using an exclusively cloud version of MS Office, this will not work with NPrinting. If you are using click to run installer, then doing so you must ensure that you are still installing a local copy of MS office on the NP designer computer so NPrinting can interact with it's program file system on the NPrinting Designer computer.

Contact your IT team and ask them have the MS Office installed locally if there is any doubt as to weather or not it is a cloud based version or not and then... retest. (Note that you may need to reinstalled NPrinting as well 'after' installing a local copy of office to ensure it is working as expected).

before going to NPrinting - have you checked that the excel, word is licensed on the server? Are you able to open excel files on the server, edit them and save them? If not - that is first thing you need to do. It seems obvious to me that ms office must be licensed but often it is overlooked.

Acrobat no longer supports the Internet Explorer browser. Microsoft Edge with Internet Explorer mode will replace the Internet Explorer 11 desktop app for backward compatibility with Internet Explorer-based plug-ins, sites, and apps. It is important to notice that you can also install this compatibility pack if you want to open Excel or Word Documents in a newer version of MS Office. For example, if you have MS Office 2007 installed and someone sent you a file created with MS Office 2010 or MS Office 2013, then you can install this compatibility pack to allow you opening files without installing the new version.

Definitely this can help you to open almost any file independently of the version you have installed for PowerPoint, Excel or Word. You can learn more about compatibility packs and troubleshooting MS Office in general here.

Even still, there can be issues with sharing documents between different office suite platforms, which can be a real concern. This is why you need to be certain of any shortfalls that might occur, especially if you need to share or collaborative on documents with other users who have one or more different office suites.

We compared the Microsoft office alternatives across various aspects, like the pricing models, the platforms they supported, the interface and performance, and the number of tools they came with. We also assessed their collaboration capabilities and the file formats they could run, among other aspects.

If you are looking for a free and easy alternative to Microsoft Office, then FreeOffice is the suite for you. The company, SoftMaker, has been developing office software since 1987 and its office suite is their flagship product.

WPS Office was released in 2016 by Chinese software developer Kingsoft. It is an office suite that is available for Windows, Linux, Android and iOS. The suite is available in English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish and Russian.

Calligra Office suite was initially released in October 2000 as part of KOffice. It is an office suite developed by KDE as well as being suitable to use for graphic art design. It is available on Linux, macOS, Windows and Android.

While LibreOffice has the familiar look and feel of MS Office, Calligra does not. A lot of the useable features tabs are set on the right-hand side of the screen and not on the top like MS Office and other office suites. This means that the page you are currently editing does not take up the full screen.

It has several tiers to choose from. The 'Basic' tier is free and allows users to view and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. The suite has full compatibility with most formats such as ODT, RTF, CSV, DOC, and ZIP. The free tier also enables users to view PDF documents and offers cloud support via services like Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Drive.

Polaris Office is developed by Intraware and was initially released in March 2014. It is a free office suite that is available for Android, iOS, Windows and macOS. It appears to be a popular suite amongst businesses and is used by the likes of Amazon and Samsung. 0852c4b9a8
