Media Player Classic (MPC), Media Player Classic - Home Cinema (MPC-HC), and Media Player Classic - Black Edition (MPC-BE) are a family of free and open-source, compact, lightweight, and customizable media players for 32-bit and 64-bit Microsoft Windows. The original MPC, along with the MPC-HC fork, mimic the simplistic look and feel of Windows Media Player 6.4, but provide most options and features available in modern media players. Variations of the original MPC and its forks are standard media players in the K-Lite Codec Pack and the Combined Community Codec Pack.

MPC-HC updates the original player and adds many useful functionalities including the option to remove tearing, additional video decoders (in particular H.264, VC-1 and MPEG-2 with DirectX Video Acceleration support), Enhanced Video Renderer support, and multiple bug fixes. There is also a 64 bit-version of Media Player Classic - Home Cinema for the various Windows x64 platforms. MPC-HC requires at least Windows XP Service Pack 3.

As of version 1.4.2499.0, MPC-HC implemented color management support, an uncommon feature that nearly all video players on Microsoft Windows lack.[11] Windows 8 support was introduced in version 1.6.5.[12] Beginning with version 1.6.6 the stable releases are signed.[13]

Media Player Classic - Black Edition (MPC-BE) is a fork of MPC and MPC-HC. It moved away from MPC's aim to mimic the look and feel of Windows Media Player with updated player controls and provides additional features on top of MPC-HC such as a video preview tooltip when hovering the mouse cursor over the seek bar, as known from video platforms such as YouTube and Dailymotion, though many of these features, including the video preview on seekbar, were added to MPC-HC at a later date.[24][25]

Supported media formats within the latest builds of MPC-HC and MPC-BE have been considerably expanded compared to the original MPC, as these builds are bundled with iterations of libavcodec and libavformat. MPC-HC version 1.7.0 and newer utilize LAV filters,[32] while MPC-BE uses FFmpeg directly.[33] Consequently, they support all formats from those libraries.

In addition to DirectShow, MPC can also use the QuickTime, RealPlayer, and SHOUTcast codecs and filters (if installed on the computer) to play their native files.[35] Though some of these files may play without the external codecs or filters installed. Alternatively, QuickTime Alternative and Real Alternative can be used in place of their player installations for expanded support of their respective file formats.

No need to search for any other application. The awesome Media Player Classic has a built-in feature that remembers last viewing position of all supported media files. To enable this, go to View -> Options. In history section, check both 'remember dvd position' and 'remember file position' options, and save changes. Do note, MPC remembers position of only those files that are in the recent files list.

Afraid I'm not as grateful. For whatever reason, after Malwarebytes flushed my MPC, I'm no longer able to choose it as a default player, despite re-installing it. I can't manually SELECT it and have the choice persist. I'm using Win7pro-64bit and have installed the latest version of MPC. MWB no longer complains, but whatever trickery it did, has left me with a broken system. Any pointers would be appreciated.

How-To: Associate the file-type "AudioCD" with mplayerc.exe. But the filter (codec?) CLAudioCD.ax seems still to be needed. Maybe it's not possible that MPC uses the same filter like the Win98SE-internal cdplayer.exe?!

In one of my .net project I have to play almost all video files ( flv, mp4 etc ) inside my .net application. So that other than windows media player, I have to include Windows Media player classic in my application. Is it possible ? I am very new to .net.

From my understanding, no. But apparently VLC is comparable to MPC-HC as far as supported media goes, and it has an API you can use to embed it in your app. There are even .Net wrappers for it, I believe.

The issue occurs when a browser flap with the netlfix player stays open for a long time or the MPC HC player stays open for a long time. If one issue issue, the other will already be. For example, MPC HC is open a long time and the issue occurs, closing it and opening netflix in the browser, it will already be with the issue.

While the small continuous crashes occur, closing the netflix flap or closing the MPC HC window, the crashes disappear, but immediately come back if I try to open them again, making it impossible to use the PC.

Q2: How often will the software know the color space of the media files? I'm not familiar with how color spaces are indicated in media files, on photos it's with an embedded color profile, but video is different.

The Nikon Zf is a 24MP full-frame mirrorless camera with classic looks that brings significant improvements to Nikon's mid-price cameras. We just shot a sample reel to get a better feel for its video features and have added our impressions to the review.

It's always been bugging me and I only recently discovered what's the real problem. Different players and codecs use different colors. It probably could be done with nVidia graphic drivers too, as Udedenkz recommends - I have ATI so I've no idea ;)

Thanks, I did this and it seems to have become better. I don't know WMP bypasses the driver settings, I mean the default setting is to make color adjustments with the video player settings. Check the screens in end to see the result.

Hi. I just tried SVP and had fun and then decided to get pro to support the developers.

Now I am encountering an issue where the Video is notn oading and MHC PC is stuck on "Opening..."

and also, i saw that in the task manager there are a bunch of "Report Sending Utility" processes while the player is running.

If you have started using Media Player classic without any change then you are most probably using FFmpeg codecs. These are very good codecs and use libavcodec for most of the decoding. It decodes most formats however not all of them perfectly. Now that you have your new filter installed.

Someone here on forums said they can run it on MPC-BE, Media Player Classic - Black Edition video player, on PC. If you have RTX nVidia card on PC you should be able to install MPC-BE and use it to upscale videos in real time with this method.

MPC-BE (aka Media Player Classic - Black Edition) is a free and open-source video and audio player for Windows, based on the original Media Player Classic (MPC) project, but with additional features and bug fixes.

Media Player Classic - Home Cinema (MPC-HC) is a free and open-source video and audio player for Windows. MPC-HC is based on the original Guliverkli project and contains many additional features and bug fixes.

The player supports all common video and audio file formats available for playback. It has a built in DVD player with real-time zoom, support for AVI subtitles, built-in MPEG2/SVCD/DVD codec. Media Player Classic was created and is currently maintained by a programmer named "Gabest". This is a mod of Media Player Classic design for home cinema usage.

Note: the Basic version does NOT include a player

You need to use it together with an already installed DirectShow player such as Windows Media Player. For playback issues with WMP please read our F.A.Q. for solutions.

Media Player Classic Home Cinema is a light-weight media player for Windows. It looks just like Windows Media Player v6.4, but has many additional features. You can use the player as a Media Player Classic Home Theater.

I usually use media player classic to view video files. I want to set the

default directory for it to C:\temp. I've set its directory at its shortcut

on the start menu. However, even if I use the shortcut on the menu to run

media player classic, when I choose file|quick open file or file|open, the

directory is still the My Document directory. How can I actually set the default directory for media player classic? I'm

using win98se.Thanks.Herbert
