That kind of enlargement of possibility is at play in Chan’s poem today. Earlier in her book, Tsing questions “if our time is ripe for sensing precarity.” In the same way, Chan’s poem senses the precarity of the self, particularly a self that notices the vast contradiction between the way we are told to view ourselves and the way in which we perceive and treat and learn from or fail to learn from the enchanted world, which is the natural world. There’s such a sorrow in the final three lines. The desire to want to write a poem that might “birth a tree.” The way, despite this overwhelming wish to reconsider everything, the speaker’s acceptance of her own individual self feels so distant and perhaps even impossible. And yet, despite that sorrow, Chan’s poem still, to use Tsing’s phrase, enlarges what is possible. It questions. It wonders. It asks us to reconsider, even if it’s hard, even if it’s elusive.

Several years ago on my 68th birthday I wrote up 68 bits of advice for my adult children, and posted them here. The bits were extremely popular, and they were widely shared by others. I was encouraged to write up more bits of wisdom on my following two birthdays. On my 70th birthday I wrote up 103 bits of advice I wish I had known earlier, which were also widely shared. The first six bits are here:

"We are deeply disturbed by the allegations in this case and intend to follow it closely in the hope of learning exactly what happened. Our procedures for granting a wish require a referral from the child's medical team, and we rely on their assessment. As we seek to learn more about the circumstances that led to Olivia's death, we fondly remember her spirit and hope that granting her wish brought some joy to her tragic life."

On his 68th birthday, Kelly wrote down for his young adult children some things he had learned about relationships, business, and life that he wished he had known earlier. To his surprise, he had more to say than he thought, so he continued composing these short passages of guidance until he had more than 400 of them. He has now compiled these inspirational concepts into a book, Excellent Advice for Living.

This was my brothers faverite song. My brother was killed April 14,2002. He was 22 and has a 3 year old son. He was shot. I think about him every day. I wish, just makes me cry now. Only because I feel the words and I understand how it feels to lose someone you love. You dont know what to say to someone when they lose a loved one, but when you lose someone you love you know then that no words can bring them back or make the pain go away. All you can do is let that person know that you are there for them. I'm just thankful that I still have people here that love me and that are in my corner. Knowing that you'll never see that person again will make you cry, but then you should know that the person is in a better place. That doesn't make you feel better but its better then sitting and thinking there gone forever because in the end you will be united......Much luvTendersweetR.I.P Duane Harrison jr.July 11, 1979-April 14,2002

this song reminds me of my girlfriend that killed herself about 3 years ago. i never had any family so i cant feel the pain that tendersweetluv has suffered but this girl was the only string i had connecting to the world and the beauty of life and i can only quote this song "i wish i wish i wish"

Their is also a remix version of this song titled 'I wish remix - To the homies that we lost' and is pretty similar but is about a friend he lost. Also features guests on the song =) Its also worth a listen too. 0852c4b9a8
