In 2011, Dhanush's popular bilingual song "Why This Kolaveri Di" from the romantic psychological thriller film 3 (2012) became the first Indian music video to cross 100 million views on YouTube.[9] He made his Bollywood debut with Aanand L. Rai's Raanjhanaa (2013). His performance as an obsessive one-sided lover in the film won him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut in addition to a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.[10] Dhanush produces films through his production company, Wunderbar Films,[11] and he made his directorial debut with Pa Paandi (2017).[12][13] His song "Rowdy Baby" from Maari 2 became one of the most-viewed Indian songs of all time.[14] It is the first South Indian video song to reach 1.5 billion views on YouTube.[15] Dhanush won his second National Film Award for Best Actor for Asuran (2019).[16]

Ilaiyaraaja moved to Chennai to take a plunge in the cinema at a very early point in his life. In 1975, he got his break when producer Panchu Arunachalam, who was impressed by a song casually sung by Ilayaraja, in 1976 commissioned the musician to compose the songs for his movie Annakili.
"I have always told him that he is one of the best pop music artistes in India. Probably one of the best. He can do totally different films simultaneously. He can also write. He can also create a song like 'Rowdy Baby'. He has the great knack of understanding what people like in this day and age. For 'Jagame Thandhiram', I would send him songs, and although he has had so many big hits, he would stick to what this film needed. He was more of a mentor for the songs of 'Jagame Thandhiram'. Though he doesn't accept it, I would call him the mentor of this album," Santhosh said.
