Poking around in Eset I decided to take a look at "Firewall Troubleshooting" and found that "SSDP DIscovery" C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe is blocked as is my MBR900 Router Gateway blocking scvhost.exe. See second screenshot.

Home system. Unmanaged client. In a workgroup of 3 pcs (no Macs), with wireless connectivity through the router to smart phones (2) and Android tablets (2) and a Chromcast dongle. Wired printer direct to the router. Just recently in the last two weeks, I started getting this now famous, "Symantec has been blocked for the following application svchost.exe" warnings every 3-4 minutes. Only appears on one PC. Searched around these forums - many problems similar to mine but not exactly alike. Looked at IPv6 implementation - it's turned off. The first line is a good sample of the logged entry...

For those who know, i had a problem with the 502 cmos checksum error and it would make my eset product network inspector go crazy and add the same devices two times. Now though that i took it to a service and they "fixed" it, i see a lot of svchost.exe traffic banned. What is going on and sohuld i worry? Should i enable it ? Also what is NT Kernel&System? Should i post a screenshot?

Probably not. Eset Network Wizard by default only shows network connections blocked in the last 15 mins. All the System and svchost.exe blocking most likely occurred at system startup time when Windows performs numerous outbound connections from these processes for Win Update checking and various maintenance activities. Again, verify your Eset settings are the same as shown in the posted screen shot.

4 days ago, the computer got infected with a trojan and after I cleaned the computer from the trojan, I did a full scan of the computer with the window and also with eset and many antivirus programs, they did not find anything, but when I did with gridinsoft, they found many malware and 3 trojans bend immediately looked at the network protection log of Eset and svchost.exe I noticed that I was trying to access the network with various ip addresses. I shared an example below. I have a trojan in my computer or a trojan infected with svchost.exe?

What you can do is create an Eset firewall rule to block all inbound and outbound network traffic for C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe for protocol UDP remote port 8000. Enable alerting and logging for the rule. This rule will at least notify you of this activity from which you might be able to determine the source app for the activity.

Svchost.exe actually stands for "service host," and it is a file used by many Windows applications. Despite this, it often is mistaken as a virus because malware authors have been known to attach malicious files to the svchost.exe service to prevent detection. Additionally, it is common for malware authors to create processes with typos such as "svhost.exe" and "svchosl.exe" to avoid detection by casual observers.

When dealing with any type of infection such as a svchost.exe virus, it is vital to proceed with caution. The first step to any digital infection is to use a solid malware remover to detect all parts of the svchost.exe virus infection and remove them accordingly. Keep in mind that while such programs are designed to detect and remove threats, they are not a substitute for running a security suite at all times. Rather, malware removers are designed to hone in on an infection after it occurs and eliminate it.

Although picking a security suite for your computer might be daunting, you can simplify the process by using a free antivirus download to sample the different products on the market and evaluate which one is right for you.

Yesterday I enabled controlled folder access in Microsoft Defender Antivirus (Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Settings > Controlled folder access = On). Today every few minutes I get the message that svchost.exe tries to write in %userprofile%\Videos directory. Why does svchost.exe access %userprofile%\Videos directory, and is it safe to allow it to do this?

Protected access prevents ransomware from encrypting your files. It blocked svchost.exe because "one of the svchost processes may be host to a 3rd party service, which Windows Security is not trustful of." See:

I am running Windows XP and just started with a cable/dsl connection to the interent. I did check off to remember my settings and allow the antivirus software as well as the software for my internet connection but have been removing the checkmark to remember my settings for anything else that pops up and then allowing it. Is this the correct thing to do? ???

When I went to end svchost.exe it showed what was using it, and I noticed that Zune.exe was the only thing there. it is already set to manual, but the fact that my firewall is blocking it might be why I can no longer stream movies to my XBOX360. I prefer this method because I have found that less of my movies glitch out when I use the Zune streaming, as opposed to the normal Windows Streaming. what would yo suggest?

Ok, but be careful the official svchost.exe can load virus like conficker as it is only a service hosting functionnality so if you see svchost.exe process downloading doing strange things it could be that the hosted dll is a trojan (like conficker).

svchost.exe is the generic name of a legitimate Microsoft Windows process that can be found running in the Task Manager. Typically, there is more than one Service Host process running at once, since separate processes handle separate groups of services.

For example, one svchost.exe process might be dealing with services relating to network services, whilst another might be dealing with services relating to remote procedure calls, and so on. In many cases, however, cyber criminals disguise malicious files/processes using names similar to those of legitimate processes.

svchost.exe is an important part of the operating system that hosts various services. It is used to group/allocate services so that they use less system resources. Typically, the svchost.exe file can be located in "%SystemRoot%\System32\svchost.exe" or "%SystemRoot%\SysWOW64\svchost.exe". If the svchost.exe is placed elsewhere, this indicates that it might be a virus.

Manual malware removal is a complicated task - usually it is best to allow antivirus or anti-malware programs to do this automatically. To remove this malware we recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.

These steps might not work with advanced malware infections. As always it is best to prevent infection than try to remove malware later. To keep your computer safe, install the latest operating system updates and use antivirus software. To be sure your computer is free of malware infections, we recommend scanning it with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.

Every single day for about the past week or two I get the following notification from my Norton installation.

"An Intrusion attempt by 193.32.162.190 was blocked"

It will happen with a given IP# until I add it to a list of blocked IP#s, then it will start happening with a different IP#, so far it has happened under four different IP addresses. They all have the same details if I click on more info.

There it says Attack: Zyxel Command Injection CVE-2023-28771. Under default action and action taken it says no action required.

Along with the attacking computer IP it also gives the number 33775 and then under traffic description it says UDP, Port 33775.

Then it says the IP in question matches a signature of a known attack. And it says the attach resulted from \device\hardiskvolume4\windows\system32\svchost.exe

I'm not sure if that is on the attacking computer or mine. I don't have 4 hard disks and none are named that way so my guess is this is on the attacking computer.

Does anyone know anything about this sort of thing and what can I do to prevent it from continuing to occur. I can keep adding IP addresses to the blocked list indefinitely, but it bothers me that this is a consistently occuring issue. Am I being actively targeted by someone or what?
