Fresh Kid Ice, Mr. Mixx, and Brother Marquis left Luke and Luke Records to go to Lil' Joe Records and released Shake a Lil' Somethin' (1996) without Luther Campbell. Shake a Lil' Somethin' is their seventh album. It was released on August 6, 1996, for Lil' Joe Records and was produced by Mr. Mixx. The album made it to No. 145 on the Billboard 200 and No. 33 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and two singles "Shake a Lil' Somethin'", which peaked at No. 11 on the Hot Rap Singles chart and "Do the Damn Thing", which reached No. 24 on the same chart. It peaked at number 59 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop and albums chart. At the time of this album, Fresh Kid Ice had left the New 2 Live Crew (which consisted of himself, Luke and Verb and Luke Records) to re-join original members Mr. Mixx and Brother Marquis. However, the reunion was short lived as Mr. Mixx left the group after this album.

2 Live Crew rose to prominence in the late Eighties with a rumbling Miami bass sound packed with samples and hyper-sexualized lyrics that helped them sell millions of records and earn the ire of politicians and family advocacy groups. Their 1989 album, tag_hash_109As Nasty As They Wanna Be, was so controversial, a Florida judge ruled it obscene, leading to both the arrest of a record store owner who refused to stop selling the album and Campbell and Won after a live show. Eventually, the 11th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals overturned the obscenity ruling and the Supreme Court refused to hear the appeal.

Anybody using a similar setup live? I have only performed once with iOS but recently sold all my hardware (rented a way too expensive house for a while) and in the interim ive become pretty cozy on my iPad.

I love it. I was wrangling a lot more hardware a year ago but I got extremely sick of trying to coordinate songs across multiple devices. Now I try to write smaller song chunks on a device and then create a "set" that I mix together. I still run a few hardware FX and a drum machine (Tanzmaus). Maybe it'd be way easier for me to just do more sampling but I love directly interacting with my projects live.

The other audio input is for vocals either for a microphone/my other iphone (Voloco autotune), or as an input if I want to collaborate with someone else's iPad. I can also send this audio into Looper L7 on the iPad if I want to live loop a section.

I think its the best option for what I do but it's got some issues that could get in the way for a lot of folks. Mostly its just not great to perform on if you like doing a lot of mixer tweaks live. It does have a relative fader mode so the touch-faders don't jump when you touch them, but the sliders just aren't very responsive.

@quartzite I bought a 10.5 used, it runs things decently, but the touch screen is very unreliable. It sort of makes it not a candidate for live use, or much of anything audio related. Have you ever had a problem with yours? I have read about a lot of people that have had problems that do not seem to be hardware related but also not fixable.

Today was the first time I've seen Race Day Live since Jim Holley got the boot. I think Daniel Blair is very good. I poked around and couldn't find any background info on Steven Scott (Lurch), Haley Shanley, and Dan Hubbard. Who the heck are they? Any moto history in their lives?

1990: One look at their raunchy discography and lyrical content will tell you that Miami's 2 Live Crew has never been one to shy away from controversy. And that was no exception when members of the crew got arrested on obscenity charges in Florida on June 11, 1990.

The NFL Live crew laughed, but then they unanimously agreed. I found it refreshing and somewhat of a stress reliever that Clinton handled the Sanchez topic so calmly. His lack of any signs of irritation regarding it gave me at least some pause on this issue.

In 1985, the California-based trio Chris Wong Won ("Fresh Kid Ice"), DJ David Hobbs ("Mr. Mixx"), and rapper Amazing V released the debut 2 Live Crew single, "Revelation". After moving to Miami and replacing Amazing V with New Yorker Mark Ross ("Brother Marquis"), the trio signed with Luke Skyywalker Records, the new label set up by their manager/promoter Luther Campbell (b. 22 December 1960, Miami, Florida, USA). (The label's name was later shortened to Luke Records when film-maker George Lucas, who created the Luke Skywalker character in the movie Star Wars, filed suit.) The new line-up assembled a single together, "Throw The D", based on a new dance move, and recorded it in front of Campbell's mother's house. Their debut set, recorded before Campbell became an actual member, marked out the crew's territory.

To this end, 2 Live Crew several times expressed themselves to be an adult comedy troupe in the best traditions of crude party records by Blowfly and others. Hence, "We Want Some Pussy" and other, incon sequential, mildly offensive tracks. Their music was underpinned by the familiar "Miami Bass" sound of synthesized, deep backbeats. As Nasty As They Wanna Be, replete with 87 references to oral sex alone, included the notorious "Me So Horny", built around a sample from Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket. It was an unquestionably offensive lyric, but no more so than those by the Geto Boys or others and there was probably worse examples within the 2 Live Crew's own songbook. "The Fuck Shop", which sampled Guns N'Roses guitar lines, or "Head Booty And Cock" which became almost a battle-cry, notably when repeated by chanting fans on the Phoenix, Arizona-recorded live album.

Advocates of record stickering such as the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) and Florida attorney/evangelist Jack Thompson, argued strongly that the crew's records should not be available for sale to minors. A retail record store owner arrested for selling a copy of the album - albeit to an adult - was later acquitted. The crew itself was then arrested for performing music from As Nasty As They Wanna Be in an adults-only club, sparking charges by anti-censorship groups that the law enforcement officials were becoming over-zealous. There is not much doubt that this was true - Miami has one of the biggest pornography industries in the country, and it was obvious the moguls behind it were not being pursued with equal vigour, if they were being pursued at all.
