Yes, I always encourage knitters to use circular needles when knitting a blanket or larger project. Straight knitting needles have limited space so you're more likely to bunch up your work or, worse, drop stitches off the end.

Circular needles have more room and, if they're interchangeables, you can adjust the length of the cables. Also, you'll never lose or drop a needle, and you're less likely to drop stitches off the end.
