The reason for creating this discography is to test Brian, my database application for compiling discography. All data is entered using the Brian application and pages are generated by Brian exactly as they are seen on the site. In creating the software it is imperative to test and the only way to do that, in the end, is to use the product. After entering the data for testing purposes, it seemed pointless not to share it.

Just for fun, I created a list of songs recorded by Frank Sinatra and Peggy Lee. The songs are sorted by title and date recorded with a FS or PL preceeding the song to indicate the performer. Please take this listing with a grain of salt. For a VERY accurate listing of Peggy Lee songs, see the Peggy Lee discography by Ivn Santiago. The purpose of this list is too simply get a quick idea of the songs covered by both Frank Sinatra and Peggy Lee.

Focusing on Sinatra's presence in the recording studio, this discography catalogues Frank Sinatra's commercial records, V-Discs, and soundtrack film recordings. The first chapter covers Sinatra's early years as a vocalist with the big bands of Harry James and Tommy Dorsey. Entries then proceed chronologically with separate chapters for each decade. Data was collected from session reports in the files of record companies and from some union contracts. Commercial record and film soundtrack entries include band personnel and composer credits.

Frank Sinatra fans, music historians, and discographers will appreciate this comprehensive catalogue of session recordings in which Sinatra either sang or conducted. The sessions span Sinatra's entire career, from his early days through the nineties. Two indexes, of song titles and of artists, complete the book.

Without a doubt one of the signature entries in Frank Sinatra's discography, Billy May's arrangement of the title track from Sinatra's 1958 album "Come Fly With Me" is quite possibly as close to a perfect studio orchestra arrangement as you can get. From the beginning to the end, it is a perfect mix of creativity, accessibility, and relentless swing.

The Reprise F-1000 series was established for Frank Sinatra's albums. The labels in this series,unlike the other Reprise albums, had various pictures of Frank at the top left of the label. This was theearliest series on the label, but the 2000 and 6000 series were also used almost from the beginning ofthe label in 1961.

The early Reprise labels in the F-1000 series (see illustration, far left) had a small notation on the topright of the label which read, "33 1/3 R.P.M., MADE IN U.S.A. REPRISE RECORDS, INC., 1961" When Warner Brothers bought the label, they added a small line around the bottom of the label whichread, "MADE IN U.S.A., WARNER BROTHERS RECORDS, INC." The label shown at immediate left is atransition label, with the Reprise copyright statement blocked out and the Warner Brothers line added atthe bottom. Later, the Reprise statement was gone (see illustration, far left). The photo of Sinatra with a seriousexpression was eventually changed to a photo of him smiling in front of a microphone. A similar photo,probably from the same session, was used after the label design changed from green and blue label tothe multi-color orange design. The orange design label (near left), had a small Warner Brothers-7 Artslogo on the top of the label in addition to the Reprise logo.
