Francesco  Cecchi

Welcome to my webpage! I am an Associate Professor at the Department of Development Economics of Wageningen University, in the Netherlands. My research interests lie at the intersection of experimental and development economics. I aim to help in understanding the processes behind inequality, poverty, and sustainable development, to better inform economic theory as well as policymaking—using rigorous, transparent, and evidence-based methods.

In the course of the years my focus has shifted from studying behavioral and institutional changes in response to shocks, to exploring financial decisions and financial inclusion in a context of poverty. I also built an extensive portfolio of impact evaluation and consultancy experiences in over a dozen countries in Africa, Asia and South America. Among others, I am currently collaborating with for-profit, non-profit and governmental organizations in the design, implementation, and evaluation of randomized development interventions in Bolivia, Ethiopia, and Kenya.
