“Fource upon a Time” is an anthology collection of four separate stories, each a unique take on the “fairy tale” genre.
Act 1: Princess and the Pirate is a “classic” by-the-numbers tale.
Act 2: The Prince(ss) and the Patriarchy is a “modern” spin.
Act 3: Dragons of CityTown is an “epic” action fantasy.
Act 4: Long Live the Queen is a “brooding” musical.
The distinct plots, characters, and tones are connected by a framing device of four playwrights, each critiquing the choices of the others.
Each Act could also be done as its own standalone 1 Act play, without the framing device of the four playwrights. Going this route would result in shorter, simpler plays, but each story still stands on its own with a beggining, middle, and end. However, there are some running jokes, callbacks, references, and 4th wall breaks in the "full" version that would not make as much sense in the standalone versions, so there are some minor differences between the full anthology and the individual versions.
However, if you are interested in performing any of these stories, please feel free to edit and alter them to fit your needs. When I put on the first performance myself, we did the first 3 Acts, with plans to do the 4th as a standalone in the future. So the framing device, playwrights, callbacks, etc. were maintained for the first 3, but will be removed from Act 4. Make it your own, and do whatever you need to do for a successful performance!
These scripts are available for FREE USE. You may use them as written, or you may edit, alter, add, or remove material as needed for your production. Think of it like a recipe - keep what you like, take out what you don't, and add what you want. I would love to see what others do with their productions, and I am happy to have discussions or answer questions about anything!
