Thing is I cannot find official download link for the latest macOS version of FortiClient VPN offline installer. The latest I could find is _6.2.6.737_macosx.dmg but substituting the newest version 6.4.2.1305 in gets me a 404. The online installer downloads a dmg upon start so it must be from somewhere.

Often the process of the FortiClient installer connecting to the server and obtaining the files is the longest part of a job. At least if we had an offline installer, we could anticipate how long the file would take to transfer or do it as a background process, etc. My current install (update) to FortiClient on a remote laptop has taken half an hour to get to 15%.

Forticlient Vpn Offline Installer

Sometimes I (and the end user) am waiting 10+ minutes for the 'retrieving servers' and 'downloading' stages of the online installer. This could all be avoided if I could just grab an offline installer from the Fortinet site via the end-users home Internet or silently transfer an offline installer via TeamViewer/VPN in advance. It is not at all productive for them or myself to watch an installer download stuff for up to 20 minutes.

Especially when you only just need to download it once, check your temporary files in C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp when the 'real setup' is engaging and get the FortiCLIENTVPN.exe file generated by the online installer, which is the full setup.

You'll be much better off getting the credentials for the support portal. The customisable installers are not available unless you have a support contract. I guess you could try asking the FN account manager as I find them really helpful.

When trying to download the installer for FortiClient, you'll find that they only provide an oh-so-helpful "Online Installer". In which, we find their "FortiClientUpdate.app". Which is also about as much use as a chocolate heat-sink as it never seems able to install updates anyway.

To do this, you're going to need to make sure that FortiClient isn't already installed on the device, otherwise I've found that it fails to download the "update". If you have, make sure you run the FortiClient Uninstaller.app from your Applications folder first.

I've tried to search for an answer but they all point to using the offline installer. I have tried to get the offline installer from Fortinet support but they are being really unhelpful and refuse to give me.

You may not be able to follow the first method for various reasons, particularly when you have a connectivity issue with the FortiClient server causing the download process to fail using the online installer repeatedly.

In this case, you can look for an offline installer on third-party sources or ask someone to share it with you. But, it would be best if you were careful when you download anything from an untrusted website.

However, now he needs to install the VPN client on a machine which isn't running Windows 10, and the "regular" Windows client for FortiGate is some kind of on-line installer... and I'm having severe problems making a firewall rule to let it work correctly.

It first opens an UDP connection on port 137 and... that's about as far as I got. I've even tried making an "All -> Any -> All" rule to see if THAT gets it to work. It didn't. The installer is stuck trying to "download" the install package.

I eventually managed to download the offline FortiClient installer using my home-machine, but I'd still like to know what just happened and why I was unable to get the client to download from our Sophos-protected network... Any suggestions?

EDIT:

Some progress - the installer tries to download the install files using regular TCP port 80. However, it does so from seemingly random IP addresses, so the Web Protection module, acting as a proxy, is either taking too long or is showing the warning message. I'd WOULD add an exception for this, except that since the IPs seem so random, I'm not sure what to add...

I have a blank VPN being deployed in the same config profile using com.fortinet.forticlient.macos.vpn in the Custom SSL settings (someone else on here suggested this solves that issue if you deploy it first). I haven't tested this, but supposing it works I don't have any questions about it since I know it needs to go on first.

I believe these work for Big Sur. However, I've noticed, specifically, Catalina doesn't add the one program to Full Disk Access and you end up needing to search for it. Of note, that program is in the PPPC as "com.fortinet.forticlient.macos.antivirus" instead of the filepath. I suspect this is fine, but I don't know.

We have in-place upgrade issues as well. We're using the free version. What I've found is that you need to run the uninstaller for the previous version first, then install the new one. I've adapted the build workflow created by @mickl089 over in this thread. I package up the Forticlient .mpkg and the vpn.plist from a machine with the connection settings in composer, then I deliver the files to a temp directory and use the script to install (after) the package and connection settings:

I know this is a bit late, but would you recommend reaching out to FortiClient's support team? I have pre-packaged installers from them, but the settings do not seem to be embedded. It's like I might as well have gotten the installer from a direct link on their site. And the administrator's guide is not really accurate from what I've experienced. I sincerely appreciate any help! e24fc04721
