Extension Isn't Doing Anything
Click the toolbar icon — if the badge reads "OFF," the extension is paused. Open the dashboard and click "Turn on" (or the power icon in the top right).
Conversion Is Slow, or the Tab Feels Stuck
Video and audio are converted using a real encoder running entirely on your computer — there's no server doing the work for you. Large or long files, and "High" quality, take longer and use more CPU. Try "Medium" or "Low" quality in Settings for a faster conversion, and avoid closing the tab mid-conversion.
A Converted PDF, Word Doc, or GIF Doesn't Look Quite Right
Document and animation conversion is done without a cloud service or AI reconstructing the file, so there are honest limits. DOCX → PDF and PDF → DOCX preserve text faithfully but not always complex layouts, tables, or embedded images pixel-for-pixel. PDF → TXT pulls out text only, in reading order, with no formatting.
Nothing Downloads After Conversion
Check Chrome's own download settings (chrome://settings/downloads) — if "Ask where to save each file" is on there, Chrome may be prompting you in a window that's easy to miss. You can also turn on "Ask where to save each file" inside Formatica's own Settings for more control per file.
My File Type Isn't Supported
Formatica supports the most common image, video, audio, and document formats. If you drop in something unsupported (like a legacy .doc file), you'll see a note saying so rather than a silent failure. Let us know what format you needed.

Formatica respects your privacy. This policy explains what information the extension accesses, how it's used, and what is not collected.
All file conversion happens locally, inside your browser, on your device. Formatica does not operate its own servers and does not transmit your files to us or to any third party — there is nothing for them to be sent to.
Files you drop into Formatica are read and converted entirely in memory in your browser tab. The converted result stays in the tab until you download it or close the tab; nothing is retained afterward unless you choose to save it.
Formatica requests two Chrome permissions: downloads, used only to save a converted file to your Downloads folder (or a location you choose); and storage, used only to save your own preferences and an optional local conversion history on your own device. Formatica does not request access to your browsing history, tabs, cookies, or the content of the web pages you visit.
Formatica is completely free, with no purchases inside the extension. The "buy me a coffee" link in the dashboard is entirely optional and takes you to an external site (Buy Me a Coffee) that we do not operate; any payment there is handled directly by that service and governed by its own privacy practices.
Formatica does not include any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking software. We do not collect usage analytics, and we do not sell or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
If you contact us for support, any information you provide, such as your email address or a description of an issue, is used solely to respond to your inquiry and improve the extension. We do not use this information for marketing purposes.
Formatica is not directed at children and is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
This policy may be updated periodically to reflect changes to the extension or applicable law. Continued use of the extension after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
