The standard document is a document whose sources or origin are known, and which can be legally used as samples to compare with other matters in question. There are two types of standard documents that the examiner should collect.
A document in which some issues have been raised or which is under scrutiny is called Questioned Document.
This is a type of document which are acquired from the records of files. These are handwritings executed during the business, profession, social and personal affairs.
Documents that are given or made upon the request of an investigator or document examiner for purposes of making a comparative examination with the questioned document. It is also known as ‘Dictated Standard’.
Documents with Questioned Signatures
This are papers containing signatures under suspicion and being disputed regarding its authenticity usually found on check, note, draft contract, will, and other relevant papers.
Documents Containing Alleged Fraudulent Alteration
Documents that are allegedly contain fraudulent changes by erasure, addition, interlineations or substitutions. It is usually found on checks with dubious raised or diminished amount than the original value.
Holograph Document Questioned or Disputed
A class of questioned document wherein the writing of an entire document is questioned or disputed. It is subject to a scrutiny involving its paper, watermarks, inks, pens, style or system of writing of a document.
Holograph documents are documents completely written and signed by one person only.
Documents Attacked on the Questioned of their Date and Age
This are questioned documents being investigated as to the age of the instrument. The age of the writings may have some bearing as to the authenticity of the document. For some cases, documents have been introduced to have been created a long time age but actually proven a few months old.
Documents Attacked on the Questioned of Materials Used in their Production
Examinations and analysis being conducted in a document to prove whether or not the date indicated on the paper matches the materials used in the production of that paper.
Documents that Identify the Handwriting
The most frequently questioned documents being brought under inquiry. These are documents being investigated to identify the handwriting on a paper that leads to the identify of the writer.
Genuine Documents Erroneously or Fraudulently Attacked
This are documents being questioned on its handwriting or penmanship whether writing is genuine or forged. In some cases, the writer usually denied to have made the writing that gives rise to the examination of the documents to prove if it is genuine or forged.
Documents to Identify Typewriting
Documents are under scrutiny regarding the typewriter used in creating a document.

Personal Documents (Birth & Baptismal Certificate, diary, etc.)
Education Documents (examination papers, written assignments, etc.)
Vocational Documents (application for employment, personal office papers, civil service papers, etc.)
Financial Documents (bank checks, insurance documents, loan records, etc.)
Social, Recreational, Fraternal Documents (documents relating to the club, civic organization & non-profit groups)
Corporate Documents (documents relating to gas, telephone, electricity, etc.)
Motor Vehicle Documents (license, application for registration, installment contracts or vehicle purchase, etc.)
Military Documents (Service record, military record, pension, medical, etc.)
Governmental and Public Record (tax documents relating to property, income & payroll revenues, affidavits, etc.)
Criminal Documents (arrest record, parole, and probation report, etc.)
Miscellaneous Documents (delivery receipts, motel & hotel registration, purchase orders, etc.)
