Extemp is hard. It’s harder as an overachieving novice with no upperclassmen to guide you in a district with limited national circuit opportunities. This didn’t stop Jana from breaking to finals at esteemed tournaments such as Three Rivers, North Allegheny, and even the Stanford Invitational. She is a three-time qualifier for ETOC, NIETOC, and UKTOC, earning ten bids in her senior season. Furthermore, Jana is a seven-time WVSDA State Speech and Debate Tournament finalist, a four-time runner-up, and a triple state champion in congress, impromptu, and, of course, extemp.

Outside of competition, Jana has served as: the Squad Captain of Extemp and President of Speech for the Wheeling Park Speech and Debate Team; a staff writer for The Red Folder; a content writer for The Extemper’s Bible; a coach of 2026 Equality in Forensics Extemp Summer Camp; and a member of the NSDA’s Student Leadership Council.

As Speech Director, Jana leads the creation of our speech related lesson plans, workshops, and resources featured throughout the Speech and Debate Discovery Camp. Furthermore, Jana oversees our contributor team and volunteers that assist in making our speech resources, interviewing candidates for both roles and ensuring that all of our resources are created in a smooth and timely manner.
