(G.1) The learner will explain laboratory methodologies used to determine whether an individual has fired a weapon, such as identifying gunshot residue.
(O. 1.1) Students will identify the techniques for rifling a barrel at least 70% of the time, at least two times throughout this unit.
(O. 1.2) Students will describe the use of the comparison microscope to compare bullets and cartridge cases at least two times throughout this unit.
(O. 1.3) Students will identify the laboratory tests for determining whether an individual has fired a weapon, scoring 70% on assessments at least three times throughout this unit.
(G.2) The learner will explore real world examples where laboratory methods were used to identify a criminal.
(O. 2.1) Students will demonstrate the procedure for determining how far from a target a weapon was fired through exploration of trajectory at least once throughout this unit.
(O. 2.2) Students will solve mathematical problems to identify the ballistics of a gunshot with a 70% success rate in their calculations at least three times throughout this unit.
(O. 2.3) Students will respond to the real world examples by reflecting on their thoughts of the case studies at least once throughout this unit.
Assignment 1 Notes: Notes will be checked for completion at the end of day 2. This is to help in your pacing; it is not recommended that you complete other assignments before taking your notes.
Assignment 2 Bullet Trajectory: Upon completion you will receive feedback at the latest of two days.
Assignment 3 Quiz: Your grade will be presented at the end of your quiz. You will be able to see which questions you missed, but not the correct answers. It is recommended you take a moment to correct your answers in your journal, explaining the correct answer.
Assignment 4 Case Studies: Each question within the case study is worth 6 points. An additional 10 points is awarded for following the guidelines set for the assignment you chose. Read the directions! Your assignment will be returned back to you within two days of submission so you can review your work.
Assignment 5 Scavenger Hunt Review: There are a total of 15 questions on the scavenger hunt. You will know your answer is correct when you unlock the next clue.
