The Documents

Citation: Record Group 46, Box 10, Sen 2A-F2, Reports and Communications from the Secretary of the Treasury, May 7, 1792-February 27, 1793, National Archives, Washington, D.C.

How to read these documents:

We have posted these documents in a format that corresponds as closely as possible to the organization of folders by the archival staff at the Center for Legislative Archives at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. The first document begins with a photo of the box and reference service slip before entering into the contents of the 8 folders within the box.

The documents are not formatted uniformly because they were written by different people within the federal government, ranging from Alexander Hamilton to Attorney General Edmund Randolph. Wherever possible, we have tried to provide close-up shots of Hamiton's signature so as to make it easier to understand which documents he put his hand to.

Often times, a 'title page' of a document comes at the end of the document. As indicated by the crease marks on either side of the 'title' these were folded into sleeves and the documents were placed within.
