If you want a factory-certified hardware kit designed specifically for the structural integrity of your Ford truck, choose Ford Genuine BC3Z-99000A25-A; if you need a universal, grease-free noise reduction solution that simplifies maintenance and protects your hitch investment, choose scottchen PRO 5th.
These two products serve fundamentally different roles in the world of towing. One is a critical OEM component ensuring your truck's fifth-wheel setup remains secure and structurally sound, while the other is an aftermarket accessory focused on improving the ride quality and cleanliness of the towing experience itself. Choosing between them isn't about which is "better" in a vacuum; it is entirely about whether your priority is strict adherence to vehicle specifications or upgrading the daily usability of your rig.
• Ford Genuine BC3Z-99000A25-A: Its biggest strength is being a genuine OEM part engineered to fit your specific vehicle perfectly without modification. The trade-off is that it is strictly a hardware kit with no added features like noise dampening or cleaning benefits. This pick is for owners who prioritize factory precision and structural reliability above all else.
• scottchen PRO 5th: Its biggest strength is the innovative "no-grease" HDPE design that eliminates mess, reduces road vibration, and silences hitch chatter. The trade-off is that it is a universal accessory rather than a vehicle-specific component, requiring manual verification of dimensions before purchase. This pick is for RVer enthusiasts who want a cleaner, quieter towing experience with minimal maintenance effort.
The Ford Genuine BC3Z-99000A25-A Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Hardware Kit is not a gadget or an upgrade in the traditional sense; it is a replacement part designed to maintain the original engineering standards of your pickup truck. Because this kit is manufactured by Ford specifically for their models, every bolt, bracket, and mounting point is calculated to match the factory tolerances of the chassis.
This product is ideal for the owner who is performing a standard repair, replacing lost or damaged components, or ensuring their truck is set up exactly as it left the assembly line. If you are installing a new hitch system and need the foundational hardware that the manufacturer intended, this is the only logical choice. The high-quality materials mentioned in its description suggest durability that matches the ruggedness expected from a heavy-duty truck, but it does so by adhering to proven designs rather than introducing new technologies.
However, this is not the right choice if you are looking to add features that the factory did not include. If your goal is to stop squeaking, reduce vibration, or avoid the mess of traditional greasing during hookup, this hardware kit will not solve those problems. It is purely functional. You should skip this item if you already have all your necessary OEM bolts and brackets and are instead seeking an accessory to enhance comfort or ease of use. It is a part for maintenance and restoration, not for customization or performance enhancement beyond the stock specification.

In stark contrast, the scottchen PRO 5th Wheel Hitch Lube Plate is an active solution to common frustrations faced by RVers and trailer haulers. This product is built around the concept of the "No-Grease Solution," offering a permanent barrier made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE). The core value proposition here is cleanliness and silence. By placing a 3/16-inch thick disc between the metal surfaces of your hitch plate and the trailer kingpin, you eliminate the direct metal-on-metal contact that causes wear, grinding noises, and the dreaded grease smear on your hands and clothes.
This product is perfect for the frequent traveler who values a tidy operation. Traditional fifth-wheel setups often require regular application of specialized greases to prevent binding and noise, which can be messy and time-consuming. With this lube plate, you install it once and forget it. The serrated inner ring grips the kingpin securely, holding the plate in place without the need for clips, drilling, or complex tools. The installation process is designed to be completed in seconds, making it accessible even for those who aren't mechanically inclined.
Furthermore, the material science behind this product offers tangible benefits for long-term ownership. The HDPE construction is engineered to withstand harsh road conditions and extreme temperatures without becoming brittle, acting as a sacrificial layer that takes the brunt of friction. This protection prolongs the life of your expensive hitch investment by preventing premature wear. However, because this is a universal 10-inch diameter product, it requires you to measure your pin box surface carefully. If your pin box is larger than the 10-inch footprint, this specific unit will not fit, and you would need to seek out the 12-inch version. It is a tool for optimization, not a replacement for missing structural hardware.
• Best for Structural Integrity → Ford Genuine BC3Z-99000A25-A: If you are missing a critical bolt or bracket required to mount your hitch to the frame, this is the only option that guarantees a proper fit for your specific truck model.
• Best for Noise Reduction → scottchen PRO 5th: If you are tired of hearing metal-on-metal clanking and feeling vibrations transfer through the cab, the HDPE cushioning in this lube plate directly addresses that issue.
• Best for Cleanliness → scottchen PRO 5th: Say goodbye to smearing grease on your hands and clothing every time you hook up or unhook your trailer; this product keeps your equipment pristine.
• Best for Vehicle Specificity → Ford Genuine BC3Z-99000A25-A: There is no guesswork involved. This kit is designed specifically for your vehicle, eliminating the risk of compatibility issues that can arise with universal parts.
• Best for Low Maintenance → scottchen PRO 5th: Once installed, this plate requires no re-application of lubricants, saving you time and effort on every trip compared to traditional grease methods.
• Best for Installation Speed → scottchen PRO 5th: The tool-free, press-on design allows for immediate installation without drills or wrenches, whereas OEM hardware often requires precise torque settings and alignment.
• Best for Durability Against Elements → scottchen PRO 5th: The weather-resistant formulation ensures the plate won't degrade in extreme heat or cold, providing consistent performance year-round.
• Best for Safety Compliance → Ford Genuine BC3Z-99000A25-A: Using the exact hardware specified by the manufacturer ensures your towing setup meets the original safety standards set for your pickup truck.
I recommend the scottchen PRO 5th for most pickup truck owners who already have their hitch mounted and are looking to improve the daily towing experience. While the Ford Genuine BC3Z-99000A25-A is essential for repairs and maintaining factory specs, the scottchen PRO 5th adds immediate value by solving real-world annoyances like noise, vibration, and grease. I would buy the scottchen plate because it transforms a mechanical connection into a smoother, cleaner interface, which is something that enhances the joy of hauling a camper or travel trailer. If you are currently struggling with a noisy hitch or a messy cleanup routine, this is the upgrade that makes the most difference.
It fits most standard 5th wheel hitches with a 10-inch diameter, but you must verify your pin box size before ordering. If your pin box is larger than 10 inches, you will need the 12-inch version to ensure a proper fit.
No, these products serve different purposes. The Ford kit provides the structural hardware needed to mount the hitch to the truck, while the scottchen plate is an accessory placed on top of the hitch plate to reduce friction and noise.
Installation is designed to be tool-free. The serrated inner ring grips the kingpin securely, allowing you to simply press the plate onto the kingpin bottom by hand or tap it gently with a mallet.
The scottchen PRO 5th is an aftermarket accessory that sits between the hitch and the kingpin; it does not alter the structural mounting of the hitch to the vehicle frame, so it generally does not impact the manufacturer's warranty on the truck itself.
