When working as a cook for the Saudi King, P.A Assoo dreamed about coming back to his native and opening his own restaurant. Sapphire Hotel was started back in 1972 from his dream and has now grown into a legendary name in the food map of Thrissur district, currently run by the second generation of the family.

They have expanded and rebuilt the restaurant into what includes the old hotel on the ground floor, a café and juice lounge on its side and a premium dining area named Sapphire Food Castle on the first floor. This restaurant is located on Railway Station Road, near KSRTC Bus Stand and doesn’t need any additional landmarks to find out as this is one place anyone in Thrissur knows.

Chicken Biriyani and their other Biriyani varieties made this restaurant attain legendary status in the food circle. Now, there are some special reasons for the unique taste of their Biriyani dishes. They only use rice directly imported from Siluguri in Bengal, known for its special taste to make their Biriyani. The chicken used for the preparation is as fresh as it could get as they buy live poultry instead of chicken and butcher them on their own to assure quality. All this efforts pays off, as their Biriyani is an experience like no other to be tasted and understood.

This general principle of freshness applies to every dish as they do not have a fridge or freezer at this restaurant till date. They buy only limited amount items according to the rush and in the case of any leftover food they give it away for free and start the whole process fresh from the next day. All the chefs at this place joined this place as a low-level employee and gradually grew into the position of chefs over the years. These years of experience in this kitchen also explains their knowledge in the special cooking methods they use.

Rush hours at this place are unbearable, despite being a fairly spacious restaurant. People wait behind your table for their turn to taste these delicacies. If you are traveling with family or want peace of mind while having food, it is best to visit the first-floor air-conditioned restaurant.

They have a parking area right beside the restaurant and one on the opposite side of the road. They have all the proper amenities you look forward in a fine dine restaurant.
