It turns out it comes from an April 2009 Everyday Food magazine, a shuttered Martha Stewart publication that was wonderful in every way. The focus was on weekday cooking for regular people with busy lives but the food was special. It was eventually folded into Living magazine and (I think) has dissipated* from there. This omelet perfectly exemplifies what everyday but special can look like because the ingredients are simple (frozen spinach, cheddar, eggs, milk), the process is quick (hand-whisked, bakes in under 15 minutes), but the presentation is gorgeous enough for the fanciest holiday brunch spread.

Welcome to the decadent meal I dream about every late December, when I want even simple foods to feel festive. Yes, I am seriously making the argument that baked brie should be a dinner dish. Or, if not dinner, maybe a luxe part of it, so perfect for this blustery, celebratory time of year. For dinner you might eat this with a big green salad and a cup of soup. You might set this out as a side dish with a big roast. You might put it out as part of a party spread too, an oasis of savory among all of the cookies and molten cakes.

We live about 30 minutes from an outlet mall, so we go there more often than we should. Becca absolutely loves the bourbon chicken at the Chinese restaurant in the food court, and I have made special trips to the mall just to get the chicken!

A healthy dog needs 2.5 percent of his ideal weight daily. Less if overweight, 2%, more if skinny and active, 3% of the weight they should be. Adjust for activity level too. Check out natural dog magazine site, pet food advisor etc.

I have 2 dogs and they will not eat hardly anything unless they are starving, So, I made this today using ground been, White rice, Kale, Green beans drained, zucchini, carrots , put veggies into food process and cut up but not into mush. I drained the cooked ground beef really good.

Responding to Chrissie: One of my pups put on some pounds. He is a rescue and a bulk eater due to previous food deprivation. We added cooked green beans to his food (frozen packs are cheap) which he likes and that really helped him with the weight loss without feeling deprived.

I have been making food for my dogs since 1980. I usually use chicken. The only veggie I have never used was zucchini. I liked the addition of zucchini and plan to add it to the dogs food from now on. I gave this recipe 5 stars because it is very much what I make. My dogs are healthy and happy. Glad you posted this delicious meal.

Hi! This recipe is so simple and healthy. I love making human grade food for them.

We have four fur babies. For our senior dog under 5 lbs we are feeding her 1 oz twice a day. For our other dogs between 10-15 lbs (two are overweight and need to lose weight) we are feeding them 2 oz twice a day. This is the same measurements when they ate kibble.

To everyone asking, a cup of this food has approximately 279 calories (see post further down). Google how many calories your dog needs daily and you can figure out how much to feed. For example: My fat, elderly dog who should weigh 50 pounds gets 3 cups of this daily plus a few treats. I figured that out by googling it.

I have been using this recipe for about 6 weeks now because something either in the store bought food or treats I was buying my 1.5 yr old Havanese caused a food allergy reaction, and she was already a very picky eater.

One thing I would like to confirm is the quantity. She is just over 10lbs. So far I give her 1 cup/ day and while she gained bit of needed weight I want to make sure that is right? Is there a way to find out how many calories per weight of food for this recipe?

My dogs love this!! I am just using it as a topper for their kibble, but I hope to transition to using homemade food exclusively. My elderly dog (14-year-old hound mix of unknown breed) has borderline kidney problems and is on a prescription diet. I read somewhere that peas are not good for dogs with kidney problems, so I substituted green beans for the peas. I used 99% lean ground chicken, so I definitely need to add the oil. The elder dog loves all kinds of veggies; not picky at all. My 3-year-old Great Dane is a bit picky, even with her kibble, and when we add this homemade food, she gobbles it up without hesitation. Thank you for this recipe!

Great recipe, I texted my vet she texted back to add iodized salt for the iodine . Then She sent me a product called Dinovit.com. Every essential vitamin and probiotic are in for digestion, heart, bone, joints and hair. are in.. The only reason I did it, I have rescue, and she would not eat any of the dog food I brought her. even the prescription ones, In the 3 days I got her, spent over $100 on food, which I am now donating to charity Today i made a huge pot following everything above and bag everything up in small ziplock in the freezer. The only thing different that i will do, for her breakfast I will add some scrabbled eggs to it and for dinner extra veggies and cheese. turns out this is cheaper then the fresh food they sell in stores, and cheaper then the IAMS and other high grade food

Made this for my pit mix after a bland diet, following an episode of gastritis! It is so easy, and an added bonus was how good his coat looks! He is so shiny, and a lot of the itching has stopped! I look at it like this, it may be slightly more expensive than high end dog food, and yes it takes a little of youe time but, think of the money and time you will save with not taking youe loved one to the vet!!

My aussiedoodle was diagnosed with pancreatitis 2 months ago and rather than buy the low fat can food, I make this using Turkey or chicken breast. I supplement with low fat dry food, I give her 1/2 cup 3 times a day total. She is 20 lbs and scarfes this recipe down! Her appetite has improved and her coat is beautiful. Great recipe, thanks

Hello, Thanks for sharing a great recipe. I have a doubt. It will be great if you can clarify that. I have 2 beagles, 7 yr old male and a 1 year old female. both fixed. Suggested daily calorie is 350 and 450 cals /day for them. Does this recipe provide 412 calories per cup? Does that means, I should give a bit less than one cup to the older & a bit over one cup to the younger one? Pls help me out. I am new to home made food. Thanks.

Talk to your vet they will point you in the right direction. My dog is 15 years old in her younger days her and her brother had bag food. For the last four years she has been get home cooked meals. I would take away the peas new study no peas. Listen to your dog I would add dry blended egg shells, cook rice in bone broth and Brussels my dog loves them. once you find the o/o of the food your dog needs run with it. It was the best.

We recently started cooking for our dog. She was slightly overweight with skin conditions and very rarely would eat during the day until we started cooking for her. Now she eats a full meal twice a day. I will definitel make these recipes.! But what size recipes appropriate for?

for about 6 months now, I have been making food like this for my dog. He is a 9 year old 150 pound dog, was over weight and not very active. He has lost weight and bounces around like a puppy. I would rather feed him this type of food than dry dog food. it really is not that expensive or hard to make.

I ended up getting 15 cups from this recipe! I used bone-in chicken thighs and ground the meet in my food processor. I weighed out 1 lb. (16 oz) portions and used 3 lbs as recipe stated. Why did I get 15 cups when recipe indicates 8 cups? 2351a5e196
