Dr. Jens Foerderer

I am an Assistant Professor at the Business School, University of Mannheim, Germany. I hold a BSC (Information Systems, 2011), a MSC (Information Systems, 2013), and a PhD (Business Administration, 2017) from the Business School, University of Mannheim, Germany. I am managing the research alliance ForDigital, which involves the University of Mannheim and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). I have been a visiting scholar at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, College Park in 2016. From 2015 to 2018 I was a research associate with SAP. My research is forthcoming in Information Systems Research and Information Systems Journal. I have served as a reviewer for Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, and various other scientific journals, institutions, and conferences. I held scholarships of the German National Science Foundation (DFG), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and the Federation of German Industries (BDI). I have received research grants of the Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Arbeit und Wohnungsbau Baden-Württemberg (total grant volume 4.7 Mio Euro).
My research is focused on the digital transformation of firms, especially with regards to
a) Digital platform ecosystems, communities, and markets
b) Software development (organizing software development, open-source software)
My teaching covers various aspects of designing, organizing, and innovating intraorganizational information systems (i.e., Integrated Information Systems, IT Management, Process Management, Software Development) and interorganizational information systems (i.e., Software Ecosystems).
