This policy explains how FocusSands, the iPhone app designed and developed by Zimo Zhang, handles information. It covers the current app and privacy or support correspondence sent to the developer.
1. Information stays on your device
FocusSands works offline and does not require an account. The app does not automatically send your tasks, session history, settings, or usage data to the developer. It has no developer-operated backend, advertising, tracking technology, or third-party analytics SDK.
The app stores the information you enter or generate on your device: task names, planned dates and deadlines, focus and break durations, planned and completed rounds, task completion records, session timestamps and history, timer state, and preferences such as language, appearance, sound selection, and volume. These records are used to provide the timer, task planning, reminders, daily summaries, statistics, and your saved preferences. Statistics are calculated on the device.
The app does not request access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone, or advertising identifier. Ambient audio files and the app's interface resources are bundled with the app; playing these sounds does not record audio or stream it from a remote service.
2. Local notifications
With your permission, FocusSands asks iOS to schedule local timer and task-deadline notifications. Notification content can include a task name and its deadline. Depending on your iOS settings, this information may appear on your Lock Screen or in Notification Center.
These reminders are scheduled on your device, without a developer push-notification server. You can change or withdraw notification permission in iOS Settings under Notifications > FocusSands, and turn off individual task reminders in the app. Disabling notifications does not delete your tasks or session history.
3. Importing, exporting, and sharing backups
You may choose to import a JSON backup through the system file picker, export a backup to a location you select, or share it using the iOS share sheet. A backup may include task names, deadlines, completion records, session history, timer configuration, and the selected language. Importing a valid backup requires confirmation before it replaces the current task, history, and settings data.
JSON backups are readable text and are not password-protected or encrypted by FocusSands. Only save or share them with locations and recipients you trust. If you select iCloud Drive, another file provider, or a sharing app, that service may store or transmit the file under its own policies and your chosen settings. FocusSands does not automatically upload backups or provide account or cloud synchronization.
Exporting or sharing creates a temporary working copy on the device. The app attempts to remove its temporary export copy when the file or share operation ends. Copies that you save or send are controlled by you and the selected provider or recipient.
4. Retention and deletion
Task and session records remain in the app's local storage until you delete or replace them, clear the app's data, or delete the app. Normal app updates are designed to retain local data.
To clear the app's saved tasks, session history, completion records, and in-app settings, open Privacy & help, select Delete all local data, and confirm. This also cancels pending app reminders. You can delete individual tasks or clear session history separately using the app's controls.
Clearing app data does not remove exported or shared backups, copies held by recipients, device backups, support emails, or notifications already delivered to Notification Center. Delete those copies in their respective locations. iOS-managed file-picker copies or caches may remain until iOS removes them or you delete the app.
Device-level backup and restore services may retain copies of app data according to your device and provider settings. These services are separate from FocusSands; the app does not offer its own cloud sync. The developer does not hold a server copy of your task or session database and cannot recover it for you.
5. When you contact the developer
If you email jaydenzhang8810@gmail.com, the developer receives your email address, message, and any attachments you choose to send. This information is used to respond to your request, investigate the issue you report, and maintain relevant support correspondence. Email is handled through the developer's Gmail service. Please avoid sending unnecessary personal information or a full task backup unless it is needed for your request.
Support correspondence is retained only as long as reasonably needed to handle your request, follow-up issues, and applicable legal obligations. You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of information in that correspondence by emailing the same address. The developer cannot directly access or erase data stored only on your device or in backup files you control.
6. Sharing and security
The developer does not sell or rent your personal information or share app activity for advertising. The app has no third-party SDK that transmits your task or session data off the device. Information you choose to send by email may be processed by the email provider, and files you choose to share are processed by the selected service or recipient. Relevant support correspondence may be disclosed where required by law.
FocusSands uses the app's device storage and iOS access controls. Keep your device and exported backups secure. No storage or communication method can be guaranteed completely secure.
7. Children
FocusSands does not ask users to create profiles or provide their age, and does not intentionally collect personal information from children through the app. If you believe a child has sent personal information to the developer by email, contact the address above to request its removal, subject to applicable legal obligations.
8. This policy page and changes
If you view this policy on a website, the hosting provider may receive ordinary connection information, such as your IP address and browser information, to deliver the page. Viewing the page does not give it access to your FocusSands tasks or session history. This policy document itself contains no analytics scripts or third-party embeds.
This policy may be updated to reflect changes to the app or its data practices. The updated date will be shown at the top. If the app's data practices materially change, the updated policy will describe them and permission will be requested where required.
