Weekend Rounding Expectations
If there is a total patient census of 32 patients (each rounder has 9 patients), back up is expected to come in at 8am to act as deck during rounds to be present for admissions, OB triages, and messages
If there is a total patient census of 36 patients, back up is expected to come in at 5:30am to round and have the list divided among 5 rounders
Back up may be called in at any time as determined by either night or day upper level
If the night upper level goes home before rounds:
The team must agree the work load is reasonable for 3 people
The day upper level agrees to round on the night upper levels patients and the number of patients that the day upper level will round on does not exceed 8 patients
The interns may not be given any additional patients to round on
The night upper level must stay until 6:30am to manage OB triages and admissions
Night upper level must be available to return until 8am; back up should not be called in if the night upper level is at home before 8am unless the amount of work exceeds the capacity of night and day upper levels and interns
