Goal: To prepare residents to counsel patients on and provide abortion care to the degree that aligns with their exercise of conscience through a lens of reproductive justice, with integrated opportunities for individual and community advocacy.
Upon successful completion of this program, residents will be able to:
Provide comprehensive, unbiased, and just options counseling to patients upon diagnosis of pregnancy
Accurately determine viability, location, and gestational age of pregnancy with bedside US
Review patient medical history and determine appropriate setting for abortion care
Advise and coordinate care as the dictated by the clinical scenario, reducing delay and improving quality of abortion care
Provide medication abortion, including initial management and triage of adverse reactions and complications
As available, develop skills for uterine evacuation with MVA/EVA, through participation in induced abortion and miscarriage management
Gain exposure to abortion care at the systems level including access, advocacy, funding, and legislation
Integrate the core tenants of reproductive justice, not limited to impact of structural inequity and respect for patient autonomy, to all learning objectives above
Exploration of conscience didactic
MAB workshop in intern fall regrouping, procedural workshops as scheduled
Direct patient care in PVP, FMC outpatient, and inpatient obstetrics triage
Rotation with Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains
Rotation with Cobalt Abortion Fund
