UPV, SEAFDEC-AQD to steer FMA 11 Scientific Advisory Group

The Scientific Advisory Group of Fisheries Management Area (FMA) 11 recently elected the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) and the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center โ Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC-AQD) as its institutional Chair and Vice-Chair during its fifth meeting on July 30, 2021.
Professor Emilia Encarnacion S. Yap capably represented UPV while Dr. Shelah Mae B. Ursua represented SEAFDEC-AQD. This is the first meeting of the SAG after the Management Board approved its composition and qualifications.

Aparri, as she welcomed the new members of the SAG.
The primary role of the Scientific Advisory Group (SAG) is to provide technical advice to the Management Body based on best available data, including but not limited to the National Stock Assessment Program (NSAP) results and catch documentation at the municipal level. The members of the SAG shall ensure transparency in their studies and proposals, and those recommendations will be based on scientific studies and the best available evidence.
