Previously known as the Biennial Flight Review (BFR), the Flight Review is a recurrent training event that occurs every 24 calendar months. This training is designed to refresh and evaluate the pilot's knowledge and skills in order to maintain a safe and proficient level of flight operation. It includes a review of FAA regulations and aircraft systems, as well as a focus on flight maneuvers and emergency procedures. The ground school portion of the flight review covers a review of regulations, weather analysis, and flight planning. The flight instruction includes a review of basic flight maneuvers, such as takeoff, landing, and steep turns, as well as more advanced maneuvers such as stalls and emergency procedures.
During the flight review, the pilot's flight skills and knowledge will be evaluated. The FAA requires a minimum of one hour of ground instruction and one hour of flight instruction during the flight review process. Upon completion of the flight review, the CFI will log and sign off on the flight time in the pilot's logbook and provide an endorsement. This endorsement confirms that the pilot has completed the flight review and meets the FAA's legal currency requirements to continue operating as a pilot. However, it is important for the pilot to continue practicing and maintaining their proficiency in order to ensure safe and effective flight operations.
