Packing for a long-haul flight takes more planning than a short domestic trip. The Fly Emirates baggage limit depends on your cabin class, fare type, and route, so two passengers on the same flight can have different allowances. This guide explains how the system works, what each fare includes, and how to pack so you avoid extra fees at the airport.
How the Fly Emirates Baggage Limit Works
Emirates uses two systems to calculate checked baggage: the weight concept and the piece concept. Which one applies to you depends on where you are flying.
Under the weight concept, your allowance is the total weight of everything you check. This applies to many routes across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia. Under the piece concept, your allowance is based on the number of bags and the maximum weight of each one. This applies to flights to, from, or within the Americas and Africa.
Your ticket shows the allowance that applies to your itinerary, so always read it before you start packing.
Economy Class Baggage Allowance
In Economy Class, the allowance depends on the fare you purchase. On weight-concept routes, the typical allowances are:
Special: 20 kg (44 lb)
Saver: 25 kg (55 lb)
Flex: 30 kg (66 lb)
Flex Plus: 35 kg (77 lb)
Some Economy Saver tickets on journeys that begin in Australia, New Zealand, or Europe may follow different rules. If your trip starts in one of these regions, check your ticket for the exact amount.
Choosing a fare is also a baggage decision. If you know you will carry a lot, a higher fare with a bigger allowance can cost less than buying extra weight later.
Premium Economy, Business, and First Class Allowance
Higher cabin classes include more generous allowances on weight-concept routes:
Premium Economy: 35 kg (77 lb)
Business Class: 40 kg (88 lb)
First Class: 50 kg (110 lb)
These allowances are helpful for long stays, relocation trips, or holidays that require different types of clothing. Even so, the weight rule for each individual bag still applies.
The 32 kg Rule for Each Bag
One detail surprises many travelers: no single checked bag may weigh more than 32 kg (70.5 lb), even if your total allowance is higher. A First Class passenger with 50 kg must divide their belongings across at least two bags.
This rule protects baggage handlers and keeps luggage safe to move. It also helps you, because very heavy suitcases are harder to carry and more likely to break. Splitting your belongings across two or three bags makes check-in smoother and your trip easier.
Piece Concept Routes: Americas and Africa
If you are flying to or from the Americas or Africa, the piece concept usually applies. Typical allowances are:
Economy Special: 1 bag up to 23 kg (50 lb)
Economy Saver, Flex, and Flex Plus: 2 bags up to 23 kg (50 lb) each
Premium Economy: 2 bags up to 23 kg (50 lb) each
Business Class: 2 bags up to 32 kg (70 lb) each
First Class: 2 bags up to 32 kg (70 lb) each
Each bag generally must measure no more than 150 cm (59 inches) in total, which is length plus width plus height. Measure your suitcase when it is fully packed, including wheels and handles, because an overstuffed bag can grow larger than expected.

Baggage for Infants and Families
Emirates offers baggage provisions for passengers traveling with infants. On weight-concept routes, an infant allowance is generally 10 kg (22 lb). On piece-concept routes, an infant usually receives one checked bag of up to 23 kg (50 lb), depending on the ticket and route.
Parents may also be able to check a collapsible stroller and a carry-cot free of charge, subject to conditions. Because these rules depend on your ticket, confirm the details with Emirates before departure. Pack diapers, formula, and a change of clothes in your cabin bag so you can reach them during the flight.
If your belongings exceed your free allowance, you can often buy additional baggage in advance. Eligible passengers can purchase extra allowance online, and the price is frequently lower than paying at the airport. Prices and deadlines depend on your route and booking, so compare the options early.
Emirates also notes that it may be unable to carry more than 15 pieces of baggage on the same flight for operational or safety reasons. Large groups, teams, and families should plan ahead and contact the airline before departure.
What to Do if Your Baggage Is Delayed or Damaged
If your bag is missing, delayed, or damaged, report the issue to Emirates baggage services as soon as possible, ideally before leaving the airport. Keep your baggage tag, boarding pass, and booking details available to support your claim. Taking photos of any damage also helps the process move faster.
The Fly Emirates baggage limit becomes simple once you know the key points. Economy allowances range from 20 kg to 35 kg depending on the fare, while Premium Economy, Business, and First Class offer 35 kg, 40 kg, and 50 kg on weight-concept routes. No single bag may exceed 32 kg, and piece-concept routes follow their own rules with bag counts and a 150 cm size limit.
Weigh your suitcases, divide heavy items across your bags, and confirm the rules that apply to your route. With careful preparation, you can check in with confidence and start your journey feeling relaxed and organized.
