Foster Feature

Because I am motivated by keeping dogs in their homes, I have decided to provide temporary housing to dogs that would be in a shelter otherwise. I'll be featuring my foster dogs on this page, please see the link in the description below, or contact me if you are interested in meeting any of my foster dogs!

BONUS: If you adopt one of my foster dogs, I provide 3 FREE consultation sessions in order to transition them seamlessly into your home!

BONUS BONUS: Because I am a foundations trainer, your new dog will come with most of the foundation training already complete! (depending on how long they are with me of course...) You are just on the hook for upkeep and advancing training if desired.

Stewart - Adopted!!!

Stewart is for adoption through True-Blue Pet Rescue out of Denver, CO. Here is a little info about him:

  • Husky/Border Collie mix (personality is DEFINITELY husky!)
  • about 50lbs, will fit in a 36" crate comfortably
  • shorter coat, but will require brushing occasionally to help shed his undercoat.

Stewart LOVES humans! All he wants in life is a human to call his own and shadow everywhere. He is extremely affectionate - if you are looking for a snuggle buddy, this guy gives THE BEST doggy cuddles. He is great with my two cats (looks and sniffs but has not chased, very respectful interactions so far) and has conformed to my dogs rougher play style, though it seems he would prefer to just run around/play chase. He knows his name, is crate and house trained, and already knows all the basics: sit, down, stay, loose leash walking (still working on heeling), potty. He does not react to door bells or knocking at all! He is literally THE PERFECT dog, PLUS he does this cute little dance when he's excited/playing! He is happy to chill with you inside, or run around outside - as long as he is with his human he is happy.

Things I am working on with Stewart:

  • Escaping - so far he has not jumped any fences, but he does try to go under or squeeze through holes in the fence. It seems like he is just looking for his pack though, so if he has a human to bond with I think the escaping will be minimized.
  • Marking - He was a stray, so he likes to mark outside. After just two days of verbal corrections for marking outside, I see a huge difference, so I anticipate this being minimized by the time he is adopted. He is completely house trained, so he does not mark inside at all.
  • Heeling/focus - He is very compliant and has already picked up on loose leash walking and looking towards his handler when they stop walking. I'll be working on teaching him heel and expect that command to be pretty solid once adopted!
  • Begging/leave it - He is very food motivated, but is learning very quickly! We are working on laying on a dog bed while humans are eating - I also expect this to be cleared up before adoption.
  • Boundaries - He follows my dogs lead usually, which means he sits before the door is opened, and waits until released in order to leave the house through any door. I also don't allow dogs in our kitchen, so he is compliant there as well! We are working on following these rules when my own dog is not present and he is picking up on that quickly.
