• FLOOGOO FMA120 — biggest strength: It is the more ambitious transmitter. It handles aptX Lossless, Lossless LE Audio, aptX Lite low-latency gaming, Auracast broadcasting and even GMAP two-way audio with a mic, so it can feed a headset and take a mic back into a PC or console.
• FLOOGOO FMA120 — biggest trade-off: It is the fussier of the two. Lossless only unlocks with a compatible headset, with Spatial Audio and Multipoint switched off, and with the USB sample rate set to 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz. That is a lot of boxes to tick.
• eppfun 3040Plus — biggest strength: A genuinely mini, low-profile USB dongle that leaves your neighbouring ports free, needs no drivers, and can run two Bluetooth headsets or speakers simultaneously across Windows, Linux, PS4, PS5, Switch and Android.
• eppfun 3040Plus — biggest trade-off: Its ceiling is lower. You are working with aptX Adaptive, aptX LL, aptX HD and SBC, with roughly 60 ms of latency claimed in the aptX Adaptive mode — excellent for syncing audio to video, but not a lossless chain.
• Who each is for: FMA120 suits the listener chasing the cleanest possible signal and the extra LE Audio / Auracast features. 3040Plus suits the plug-and-forget user who wants sound out of almost any device with the least hassle.
The FMA120 is a USB-A Bluetooth transmitter built around the newer end of the Bluetooth audio world. Where most dongles stop at "it connects," this one keeps going: aptX Lossless for CD-quality playback, Lossless LE Audio, aptX Lite for low-latency gaming, Auracast as a broadcaster with adjustable latency, and GMAP for high-quality two-way audio with a mic — which matters if you are on Teams or Zoom calls or playing on a PS5 with a headset like the Sony WH-1000XM6.
The hearing-aid support is the part people overlook. Because it carries a qualified LE Audio design, it works with LE Audio hearing aids as well as the LC3 codec on a long list of mainstream buds and headphones — Samsung Buds 3, Sony LinkBuds S, WF-1000XM5/6, WH-1000XM6, Technics EAH-AZ100, Xiaomi Redmi Buds 6 Pro and more. If you run a headset from that list on a MacBook, this is the dongle that lets the headset actually use its better codecs instead of falling back to SBC.
eppfun 3040Plus: Who It's For
The 3040Plus is the opposite philosophy: small, cheap in complexity, and almost aggressively simple. It is a mini USB dongle — the kind you leave plugged into a laptop or PC permanently because it will not block the ports next to it. There are no drivers to install. Plug it into a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port and it drops straight into pairing, with an LED that flashes white quickly on first use and stays lit once a headset is connected.
Its headline trick is running two Bluetooth headsets or speakers at the same time, which is genuinely useful for shared listening on a plane, a couch co-op session, or two people watching one screen. The codec switch covers SBC, aptX, aptX LL, aptX HD and aptX Adaptive, and the low-latency encoder keeps audio and video roughly in step at around 60 ms. Compatibility is broad: Windows XP through 10, Linux, PS4, PS5, Switch and Android.
Buy it if you want sound out of an older machine, a console, or a handheld without fighting settings, or if two-headphone audio is the whole point. Skip it if you are chasing lossless audio or LE Audio features, because it does not offer them. And note the reminder in its own specs: your headphones must support the same standard for the better codecs to actually kick in — plugging in an SBC-only headset gets you SBC.
Side-by-Side: Which Should You Choose?
• Best for lossless audio quality → FLOOGOO FMA120. aptX Lossless and Lossless LE Audio are simply not on the 3040Plus feature list.
• Best for plug-and-play simplicity → eppfun 3040Plus. No drivers, no sample-rate fiddling, no app settings to disable.
• Best for two headsets at once → eppfun 3040Plus. Dual simultaneous headset or speaker connections are explicitly supported.
• Best for older or mixed platforms → eppfun 3040Plus. Windows XP through 10, Linux, PS4, PS5, Switch and Android is a wider stated compatibility net.
• Best for a tidy laptop setup → eppfun 3040Plus. The low-profile mini dongle will not block adjacent USB ports; the FMA120 is a USB-A plug design.
• Best for accessibility and public audio → FLOOGOO FMA120. Qualified LE Audio hearing-aid support and Auracast broadcasting, with adjustable latency, put it in a different class.
• Best for best wireless earbuds for MacBook → FLOOGOO FMA120. If your buds are on the confirmed aptX Lossless list, this is the adapter that lets them stretch their legs.
I would buy the FLOOGOO FMA120. For a MacBook setup where I want the best wireless earbuds pairing to actually sound like the earbuds I paid for, plus mic support for calls and gaming, the FMA120 covers ground the 3040Plus cannot reach — lossless, LE Audio, Auracast, hearing-aid compatibility. It asks more of you in setup, and that is a real cost. But if you would rather have a dongle that just works on an old laptop, a PS5, or with two headsets at once, the eppfun 3040Plus is the smarter, lower-effort pick. In my opinion, the FMA120 is the one worth growing into. Check the current price on Amazon before you commit, since that is the one thing that can swing this either way.
what is aptx adaptive headphones
aptX Adaptive is a Bluetooth audio codec that dynamically balances sound quality and latency depending on what you are doing — higher quality for music, lower delay for video and gaming. Headphones "with aptX Adaptive" simply support that codec, so the transmitter and the headset can negotiate the best mode. Of the two adapters here, the eppfun 3040Plus lists aptX Adaptive directly; the FLOOGOO FMA120 goes further with aptX Lossless, aptX Lite and Lossless LE Audio.
Both are transmitters, so the headset has to support the codec you want to use. Note that FLOOGOO specifically advises disabling Spatial Audio in the headset app if lossless mode will not enable — so if spatial audio is a must-have for you, that setting conflict is worth knowing about. The eppfun 3040Plus does not list lossless modes, so it sidesteps that particular issue.
Neither adapter is a voice assistant itself — they carry Bluetooth audio, and mic support depends on the headset. The FLOOGOO FMA120 is the one with explicit two-way audio and mic support (GMAP), which is what you want if you take calls or use voice features through a connected headset. The 3040Plus is aimed more at one-way audio output.
Yes — and both brands say so. eppfun notes your headphones must support the same standard for its better codecs to work, and FLOOGOO tells you to check whether your headset supports aptX Lossless before expecting it. If your headset only does SBC, both adapters will fall back to SBC.
