Our Directors
Our clinic directors bring various lacrosse experiences to instruct players.
Brien Keller - Director Focal Athletics
Matt Schairer - Head Men's Coach Of Dean Lacrosse, Franklin, MA
Scott Carpenter - Former Head Boy’s Lacrosse at Cumberland High School, Cumberland, RI
Our Clinic Philosophy
Our teaching of lacrosse is based on best practice and provides an environment for kids to learn from the game and have fun.
We emphasize a “learn by doing” approach by modeling a skill and providing time for players to replicate it in a realistic setting.
Players are also "engaged in creative small-sided games" where they can demonstrate learned skills in a fun environment.
We provide a structure in which players are given multiple opportunities to "think tactically" based on an opponent's decision.
Instruction
Our Clinic has a low Player to Coach Ratio. We will keep our ratio to 8-1.
Daily Schedule
Our daily schedule will include various lacrosse training and related experiences for our players. We will provide multiple opportunities and diverse activities to ensure that kids will have fun while improving in lacrosse.
Technical Skills
Our training will focus on ability-level instruction in the following areas.
Throwing/Catching, Cradling, Dodging, Face-Offs, Ground Balls, Individual Defense, Shooting, and Stick Improvement.
Tactical Skills
Team Defensive Shape, Transition from (Off.-Def.) / (Def.-Off.), Team Offensive Spacing
Small-Sided Games
We believe in games that involve fewer players on each side. This environment allows for more connected players and a higher frequency of individual technical and tactical involvement.
Learning without Helmets
We know that having a lacrosse helmet on all day in the summer heat is not optimal. Players will get an opportunity to participate in games that do not involve lacrosse equipment but reinforce technical and tactical skills learned.
