So after updating MSFS yesterday and i tried to fly the bell 407 helicopter

Sheriffboy24101336 404 KB

from KSCK to KSAC well around 5 to 8 minutes after take off the electrical systems turned off and so did the engine, and tried to start the engines up and see if I can fix the issue and had no success. I would like to know if anyone is having the same issue other than me, this is very disappointing since I always loved to fly helicopters. Thanks

It would be wonderful to see a new addition to the sim with helicopter flight training.

Even the Airliner training only has two modules, would it be awesome if you added a few more modules for helicopter flight training?

the new helicopters are oscillating wildy as soon as they take off , seem to be left right roll as if sim induced and not controller induced. Tested without joystick and recalibrated controllers. Ive tried on firends PC and they are stable so its a bug only on my configuration.

I have Thrustmaster warthog Stick/throttle MFG rudder pedals and considerable experience and success flying helicopters in DCS and Xplane. I confirm and have rechecked control assignments are correctly set. Empty Community Folder, and have re installed both Helicopter modules twice, problem persists. Constant rolling left and right becoming increasingly uncontrollable. Also seems worse with assists on!

hmm, strange. I am using MS SWFFB2 joystick on PC. I turned off assists too and am not having issues flying both helicopters. I have flown Helicopters in DCS for years though (Hind, Huey, AH-64D, Mi-8MTV2). Flew the Bell in XP11 as well.

The Warthog stick is not really that good for flying helicopters the spring is way too strong. Ideally a stick with no spring is really better for those very small cyclic inputs. I use an old Logitech G940 stick with the force feedback set vey light to give just a hint of resistance.

Dangerous question. You get a lot of personal tastes I think. ?

It depends on if one is known with the RL flight characteristics or not to acknowledge the flight model being realistic.

For me personally I like a helicopter if its behavior is convincing and for now that is the Cabri G2.

That said, I only have three: Cabri G2, Bell 407 and Robinson R44.

Well, if you watch both those videos he's really quite positive about the new heli support in MSFS. I captured his main points from that first video here: -helicopters-what-do-you-think/?do=findComment&comment=4874061

If you really want to learn to fly a copter, watch some you tube videos, and then practice hovering, for a few days, landing, lifting off, hover, mix and repeat. When you get to the point where you really have control, then try some forward flight, short hops and land...

I appreciate what both of you have said. Your answers seemed to be coming from two different angles. For the time being, I think Dominique's answer is most direct to my question. Yes I just tried to the Cabri, and I think as compared to some other helicopters, it is a good starting point for a newbie [and trust me, when it comes to helicopters is am a real neophyte] but I also appreciate the more purist answer from Bob. Long term I think this is the way to go. But for now, I am still in the short term.

If the question and answers provided above do not answer your specific question - why not ask a new question of your own? Our community and flight simulator experts will provided a dedicated and unique answer to your flight sim question. And, you don't even need to register to post your question!

Is it just me or is the helicopter tutorial next to impossible to do. I don't know if I am doing something wrong or what... but no matter how hard I try the helicopter goes into this crazy spinning mode where it spins around and around and then starts fl...

Hi there,I'm a total noob in flight simulation and I'd like to learn to pilot helicopters in FSX (or maybe 2004) and want to get some good equipment.I'll get a Saitek stick and throttle this week and was thinking about buying pedals too.But I'm ...

The helicopter features some of the most advanced medical equipment with authentic aerial views projected within the windows and movement that mimics changing altitudes and weather conditions throughout the flight.

To save a few virtual pilots time setting up controls for helicopters in MSFS, I just spent the last hour testing and documenting what they are called in rotor vs fixed wing aircraft. I also tested the trim system, which behaves more like traditional trim than Force Trim. Here is a quick guide to set yours up. I recommend beginning from a good fixed wing profile for each controller and using the profile manager to copy it, instead of starting from scratch. That way views and other non aircraft specific assignments will be saved. Ideas and changes welcome.

NOTE: The MSFS helicopters have assists enabled by default, which for the most accurate simulation experience I recommend disabling. You will find them under ASSISTANCE OPTIONS > PILOTING > HELICOPTER ASSISTED TAIL ROTOR and HELICOPTER ASSISTED CYCLIC.

Maj. Mitchell Clapp, 316th Operations Support Squadron assistant director of operations, monitors a training mission on the virtual-reality helicopter flight simulator system at Joint Base Andrews, Md., Oct. 25, 2022. The scenario was a routine 30-minute mission in late October where Mull was shadowing the lead Huey taking off from Andrews and navigating through a series of checkpoints before returning to base. However, nobody was actually in the lead helicopter, and Mull never left the ground the entire time.

Instead of a real helicopter, Mull had donned a virtual reality headset and was piloting a UH-1N in a flight simulator assembled by the 316th Operations Support Squadron to support the 1st HS mission. The VR simulator was assembled after the regular simulator was sent off for repairs, and everything including the software, desktop computer, monitor, seat, VR headset and flight controls was purchased commercially, but pilots have tweaked the components to customize the simulator as their own.

The simulator Mull was piloting is one of seven VR stations setup in the 1st HS headquarters building. They utilize X-Plane flight simulator software, and linking the stations together allows pilots to train as they fly in multi-ship formations.

The X-Plane computer program has a library of elements such as buildings and trees that can be added to the simulator landscape, and Clapp said they used another 3D modeling software program to make objects from scratch to ensure detail and accuracy on important navigation points.

In addition to training over the NCR, the VR simulator is also ideal for familiarization if pilots are called to fly out of the area, Clapp said. From regular missions to community engagement events like flyovers and static display requests, pilots can pre-fly the route before leaving the ground.

Repair on the old simulator has been completed; it returned to service at Joint Base Andrews a few months ago and still has some advantages. It has been certified by the Federal Aviation Administration and the Air Force District of Washington, so pilots can log real flight hours. Since it is modeled after a Huey cockpit, it physically looks like the real thing with gauges and switches, and it has two seats for the pilot and co-pilot (or pilot and trainer) sitting next to each other.

The old simulator is also supported by a contractor on-site for routine maintenance and updates. With Clapp as the lead on the VR system, someone would have to take over when he receives permanent change of station orders, which he estimates will be in July. Another possibility is hiring a civilian for continuity.

This will not only enhance the quality of the training of future pilots, but also reduce both costs and the negative environmental impact. By acquiring an H125 simulator in the highest certification category, the two organizations are making a further contribution towards supporting up-and-coming helicopter pilots in Switzerland.
