This Privacy Policy describes how flashScan ("we", "our", or "the app") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our mobile application.
If you choose to sign in using Google Sign-In, we collect:
Your name
Email address
Google account profile picture (if available)
Signing in is optional. You can use the core features of the app (scanning, PDF export, e-signatures, stamps) without creating an account.
Documents you scan using the app are processed on your device.
If you choose to sign in and enable Cloud Sync, your scanned documents and related metadata may be uploaded to and stored in our secure cloud storage (Firebase, provided by Google) so you can access them across devices.
If you do not sign in or do not enable Cloud Sync, your documents remain stored locally on your device only.
The app requires access to your device's camera to scan documents, and access to your photo gallery if you choose to import existing images. These are used solely for the purpose of document scanning and are not collected or transmitted by us unless Cloud Sync is enabled.
We may collect limited technical information such as device type, operating system version, and crash/error logs to help us maintain and improve app stability.
We use the information we collect to:
Provide and maintain core app functionality (scanning, OCR, PDF export, e-signatures, stamps)
Enable optional Cloud Sync so your documents are available across your devices
Authenticate your identity via Google Sign-In
Improve app performance and fix technical issues
Provide customer support
Locally scanned documents are stored on your device using standard Android app storage and are not accessible to other apps.
Documents synced via Cloud Sync are stored securely using Firebase (Google Cloud infrastructure), protected by user-scoped access rules, meaning only you can access your own synced documents.
We do not sell your personal data or documents to third parties.
flashScan uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:
Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Storage) — for optional sign-in and cloud sync
Google ML Kit — for on-device text recognition (OCR) and document edge detection
These services may process data in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Locally stored documents remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app.
Cloud-synced documents remain stored until you delete them from within the app or request account deletion.
You may request deletion of your account and all associated cloud data by contacting us using the email below.
flashScan is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
You may use flashScan without signing in, in which case no account data or cloud-synced documents are collected.
You may disable Cloud Sync at any time from within the app settings.
You may delete your locally stored documents at any time from within the app.
You may request deletion of your cloud account data by contacting us.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
