FlashRead Kids ("we", "our", "the app") is designed to help children with reading difficulties. This Privacy Policy explains what data we handle, how, and why.
FlashRead Kids collects the minimum data necessary to work:
Child profile data entered by the parent/therapist: first name, avatar choice, age range. No last name, address, phone number or email is ever asked for a child.
Reading session data: exercises played, scores, error types, reading speed (words per minute). Stored to display progress statistics.
Audio recordings (only in the "Read Aloud" module): the child's voice is recorded ONLY when the microphone button is pressed. The recording is sent to OpenAI's Whisper transcription service, transcribed, then immediately deleted. No audio recording is ever stored on our servers or shared.
Purchase data for subscriptions is handled 100% by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store) and RevenueCat. We never see your credit card, only whether your subscription is active.
No advertising identifiers (IDFA/AAID)
No location
No contacts, photos, calendar
No behavioural tracking or advertising
No third-party analytics (Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.)
No social login (Facebook, Google Sign-In)
We use two AI services to generate reading content and validate pronunciation:
Anthropic Claude (word/sentence generation, comprehension questions) — text prompts only, no personal data attached. Anthropic's privacy policy: https://www.anthropic.com/privacy
OpenAI Whisper (voice-to-text transcription for the "Read Aloud" module) — audio is transmitted, transcribed, then discarded. OpenAI's privacy policy: https://openai.com/privacy
Both are contacted only when the parent/child triggers an action inside the app.
Locally on the device: child profiles, reading lists, session statistics.
On our secure servers (MongoDB, Europe): a copy of profiles and card collections so you can restore your data. Encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS 1.3).
FlashRead Kids is designed for children but is set up by adults (parents, teachers, speech therapists). We follow COPPA (US) and GDPR-K (EU) principles:
No account creation asks for children's personal information.
No advertising, no third-party trackers.
No public sharing features that a child could trigger alone.
Card sharing between accounts uses a 6-digit PIN entered by an adult.
Subscriptions are managed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store).
Payments never pass through our servers.
Auto-renewal, cancellation and refunds are handled in your device's account settings.
You can delete all your data at any time:
From the app: Settings → Delete my account → confirm.
By email: send a request to philippe.mouchnino@gmail.com with the profile name(s). We will delete within 30 days and confirm by email.
Deleting the app from your device removes all locally-stored data immediately. Server-side data is deleted upon written request as described above.
If you live in the European Union, you have the right to:
Access your data
Correct it
Delete it (right to be forgotten)
Export it (portability)
Object to any specific processing
Send any request to philippe.mouchnino@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.
If we materially change this policy, we will notify you within the app before any change takes effect.
