1. Overview
Flashcardit is a learning application that enables users to create, organize, and study flashcards, quizzes, notes, and other educational content.
Flashcardit follows a local-first architecture. User data is primarily stored on the user's device and is not transmitted to developer-controlled servers except when the user explicitly chooses to use third-party services.
This Privacy Policy explains what information may be processed by Flashcardit, how it is used, and when it may be shared with third-party services.
2. Information We Process
Flashcardit may process information provided directly by users, including:
- Flashcards, study decks, quizzes, notes, and educational content created within the application
- Text entered by the user
- Files imported by the user
- AI prompts and study content submitted through optional AI features
- Text explicitly sent by the user to Google Translate
- Search queries explicitly sent by the user to Google Search
- Data processed through the optional local REST API
Imported files may contain personal information selected by the user. Users are responsible for reviewing imported content before using external services.
Flashcardit does not intentionally collect passwords, financial information, contact lists, government identifiers, or other sensitive personal information.
3. How We Use Information
Information processed by Flashcardit is used solely to provide application functionality, including:
- Creating and managing flashcards and study materials
- Generating MCQs and educational content
- Supporting optional AI-assisted learning features
- Providing translation and search actions initiated by the user
- Supporting local automation through the REST API
- Importing and exporting study content
Flashcardit does not use user data for advertising, profiling, behavioral tracking, or marketing purposes.
4. AI Features and Third-Party AI Services
Flashcardit provides optional AI-powered features using a Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) model with OpenRouter.
- Flashcardit does not provide, host, own, or operate any AI models or AI servers.
- Users may enter and manage their own OpenRouter API key within the application.
- Flashcardit does not provide OpenRouter accounts, API keys, billing services, or AI subscriptions.
- When AI features are used, user input is sent directly from the user's device to OpenRouter and/or the AI model provider selected through OpenRouter.
- API keys are stored locally on the user's device and are not transmitted to, stored by, or accessible to the Flashcardit developer.
- Users are responsible for protecting and managing their own API keys.
- Flashcardit does not collect, monitor, log, or store AI prompts, AI responses, API requests, or API usage on developer-controlled servers.
- The handling, retention, logging, and processing of AI data is governed by OpenRouter and any AI providers selected through OpenRouter.
- Users can configure privacy, logging, and provider data-retention settings through their OpenRouter account.
- Flashcardit has no control over the privacy practices, security policies, data retention policies, or model training practices of third-party AI services.

5. External Integrations (Google Translate and Google Search)
Flashcardit includes optional features that allow users to send selected text to external Google services.
Google Translate
Users may manually send text to Google Translate. Information sent to Google Translate is processed directly by Google and governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
Google Search
Users may manually send search queries to Google Search. Information sent to Google Search is processed directly by Google and governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
These actions are initiated by the user and use Android system functionality. Flashcardit does not record, store, or monitor the content sent.
6. Local REST API
Flashcardit includes an optional local REST API intended for advanced users.
- The REST API runs entirely on the user's device.
- The REST API is intended for local automation and integrations.
- The REST API does not transmit data to developer-controlled servers.
- The REST API may be accessible to devices on the same local network depending on user configuration.
- Users are responsible for securing any API keys or network settings they configure.
7. Data Sharing
Flashcardit does not sell, rent, trade, or share user data with advertisers, data brokers, or marketing companies.
Data may be transmitted to third-party services only when the user explicitly chooses to use those services, including:
- OpenRouter
- AI providers selected through OpenRouter
- Google Translate
- Google Search
- Other applications opened through user-initiated actions
Each third-party service operates under its own privacy policy and terms of service.
8. Data Storage
- Flashcards, study decks, and other application data are stored locally on the user's device.
- Flashcardit does not provide cloud synchronization or centralized storage services.
- Flashcardit does not maintain developer-operated servers for storing user content.
- Data leaves the device only when the user explicitly interacts with third-party services.
9. Analytics and Diagnostics
Flashcardit does not collect analytics, advertising identifiers, user tracking information, device fingerprints, or usage statistics.
Flashcardit does not use advertising SDKs.
If analytics, crash reporting, or diagnostics are added in future versions, this Privacy Policy will be updated accordingly.
10. Security
- User data remains on the user's device by default.
- Communications with third-party services typically use HTTPS/TLS encryption when supported by those services.
- API keys are stored locally on the user's device.
- No method of electronic storage or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Users acknowledge the risks associated with transmitting data to third-party services.
11. Data Retention
- Flashcardit does not store user data on developer-controlled servers.
- User data remains on the user's device until deleted by the user.
- Users may delete flashcards, study materials, and other content at any time.
- Uninstalling Flashcardit generally removes locally stored application data unless separately backed up by the user.
12. Children's Privacy
Flashcardit does not knowingly collect personal data from children. The application is intended for general educational use.Â
13. International Use
Third-party services used by Flashcardit may process data in countries other than the user's country of residence.
Such processing is governed by the privacy policies and legal requirements applicable to those third-party services.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time.
Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document.
Continued use of Flashcardit after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
