Imām Muhammad bin Ismā`il Al-Bukhārī's Kitāb Jamee` Al-Saheeh was translated into English in 9 volumes, containing 93 books (chapters).  The numbering of the Hadeeths re-starts at each volume.  Imām Muhammad bin Ismā`il Al-Bukhārī was born in 194 A.H. and died in 256 A.H.  He spent sixteen years compiling his Saheeh Collection and ended up with 2,602 Hadeeths (9,082 with repetition).  His criteria for acceptance into the collection were amongst the most stringent of all the scholars of Hadeeth.  

Below is a selection of short Hadeeths that have been summarised to make it easy to copy as a text message or post to your social networking profile to spread the knowledge.

Please note that the numbering for the Hadeeth reference is from the (online) English translation. 

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.1, Bk.2, No.12: "None of you will have faith till you wish for your fellow Muslim what you like for yourself."

Lessons from this Hadeeth:

a.) We need to examine our hearts to remove envy or any desire to out-do one another in matters of dunya. E.g. do we find ourselves wanting a better house than our brother? Rather we should desire a good house for us and equally good for our brother. Allāh's bounty is limitless.

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.1, Bk.3, No.109: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Whoever (intentionally) ascribes to me what I have not said, then (surely) let him occupy his seat in hell-fire." 

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.1, Bk8, No.418: "The Prophet (ﷺ) used to start every thing from the right (for good things) whenever it was possible in all his affairs; for example: in washing, combing or wearing shoes."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.1, Bk.8, No.435: "If anyone of you enters a Masjid, he should pray two Rak`āt before sitting." 

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.1, Bk.8, No.468: "A faithful believer to another faithful believer is like the bricks of a wall, enforcing each other." While saying that, the Prophet (ﷺ) clasped his hands by interlacing his fingers. 

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.2, Bk.16, No.107: "Night prayer is offered as two Rak`āt followed by two Rak`āt and so on, and if you want to finish it, pray only one Rak'ah which will be witr for all the previous Rak`āt." 

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.3, Bk.43, No.622: "A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim, so he should not oppress him, nor should he hand him over to an oppressor. Whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allāh will fulfill his needs; whoever brought his (Muslim) brother out of a discomfort, Allāh will bring him out of the discomforts of the Day of Resurrection, and whoever screened a Muslim, Allāh will screen him on the Day of Resurrection." 

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.3, Bk.43, No.629: "Whoever has oppressed another person concerning his reputation or anything else, he should beg him to forgive him before the Day of Resurrection when there will be no money (to compensate for wrong deeds), but if he has good deeds, those good deeds will be taken from him according to his oppression which he has done, and if he has no good deeds, the sins of the oppressed person will be loaded on him." 

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.3, Bk.43, No.639: "Whoever has (the following) four characteristics will be a hypocrite, and whoever has one of the following four will have one characteristic of hypocrisy until he gives it up. These are: (1) whenever he talks, he tells a lie; (2) whenever he makes a promise, he breaks it; (3) whenever he makes a covenant he proves treacherous; (4) and whenever he quarrels, he behaves impudently in an evil insulting manner."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.7, Bk.62, No.22: The Prophet's wedding banquet (marriage with Safiyya bint Huyai):- He (ﷺ) ordered leather dining-sheets to be spread, and dates, dried yoghurt & butter were laid on it, and that was the Prophet's wedding banquet. 

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.7, Bk.62, No.74 (also reported by Muslim and Abu Dāwud): "Beware of suspicion, for verily suspicion is the most misleading form of conversation..."

Lessons from this hadeeth:

a.) Suspicion must be avoided as much as possible. Suspicion is the basis of rumours, slander and gossip which are all forbidden in Islam.

b.) Islam is concerned with protecting the Muslim community from habits which may break it up.

c.) The quality which the Prophet (s) wanted us to develop from this hadeeth is that of trust.

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.7, Bk.64, No.263: "When a Muslim spends something on his family intending to receive Allāh's reward, it is regarded as Sadaqah from him."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.7, Bk.69, No.494: The prophet (ﷺ) warned that (in the future) there will be some Muslims who will consider the following harām things to be allowed: fornication, the wearing of silk (for men), the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments. 

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.7, Bk.70, No.545: "No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allāh expiates some of his sins for it." 

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.7, Bk.72, No.747: "If you want to put on your shoes, put on the right shoe first; and if you want to take them off, take the left one first. Let the right shoe be the first to be put on and the last to be taken off." 

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.7, Bk.72, No.820: "Allāh has cursed the lady who artificially lengthens (her or someone else's) hair and the one who gets her hair lengthened and the one who tattoos (herself or someone else) and the one who gets herself tattooed." 

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.73, No.47: Anybody who believes in Allāh and the Last Day:-

- should not harm his neighbour, and

- should entertain his guest generously, and

- should talk what is good or keep quiet. (i.e. abstain from any kind of evil and foul talk).

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.73, No.135: "The strong person is not the one who overcomes the people by his strength, but the strong is the one who controls himself while in anger."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.73, No.15: "Whoever loves that he be granted more wealth and that his lease of life be prolonged then he should keep good relations with his kith and kin." 

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.74, No.246: Allāh created Ādām (alayhissalām) 60 cubits (about 30 meters) in height. When He created him, He said to him, "Go and greet that group of angels sitting there and listen to what they will say in reply to you, for that will be your greeting and the greeting of your offspring." Ādām went and said, "As-salāmu'alaykum." They replied, "As-salāmu'alayka wa rahmatullāh". So they added "wa rahmatullah". Whoever will enter Paradise will be of the shape and form of Ādām. Since Ādām, the stature of human beings has diminished continuously to the present time (i.e. the time of the prophet sallAllāhu'alayhi wasallam).

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.75, No.352: "The invocation of anyone of you is granted (by Allāh) if he does not show impatience (by saying, 'I invoked Allāh but my request has not been granted.')" 

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.75, No.411: "When the Imām says 'Āmeen' (in Salāh), then you should all say 'Āmeen', for the angels say 'Āmeen' at that time, and he whose 'Āmeen' coincides with that of the angels, all his past sins will be forgiven." 

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.76, No.428: "Allāh will not accept the excuse of any person whose instant of death is delayed till he is sixty years of age."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.76, No.431: "If anybody comes on the Day of Resurrection who has said: lā ilāha illallāh, sincerely, with the intention to win Allāh's pleasure, Allāh will make the Hell-Fire forbidden for him."

Note: The key is to understand what is required for us to have sincerity for the testimony (shahādah) of 'lā ilāha illAllāh'. Please read the paper "The Shahādah - What Does It Mean?"

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.76, No.432: "Allāh says, 'I have nothing to give but Paradise as a reward to my believer slave, who, if I cause his dear friend (or relative) to die, remains patient (and hopes for Allāh's Reward)." 

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.76, No.477: "...he who refrains from begging others (or doing prohibited deeds), Allāh will make him contented and not in need of others; and he who remains patient, Allāh will bestow patience upon him; and he who is satisfied with what he has, Allāh will make him self-sufficient. And there is no gift better and vast (you may be given) than patience." 

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.76, No.485: "A slave of Allāh may utter a word which pleases Allāh without giving it much importance, and because of that Allāh will raise him to degrees (of reward); a slave of Allāh may utter a word carelessly which displeases Allāh without thinking of its gravity and because of that he will be thrown into the Hell-Fire."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.76, No.497: "If anyone of you looked at a person who was made superior to him in property and (in good) appearance, then he should also look at the one who has less than him, and to whom he has been made superior." 

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.76, No.503: Allāh's Apostle said, "When honesty is lost, then wait for the Hour." It was asked, "How will honesty be lost, O Allāh's Apostle?" He said, "When authority is given to those who do not deserve it, then wait for the Hour."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.76, No.506: "He who lets the people hear of his good deeds intentionally, to win their praise, Allāh will let the people know his real intention (on the Day of Resurrection), and he who does good things in public to show off and win the praise of the people, Allāh will disclose his real intention (and humiliate him)."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.76, No.521: "When carried to his grave, a dead person is followed by three things, two of which return (after his burial) and one remains with him. His relative, his property, and his deeds follow him; relatives and his property go back while his deeds remain with him."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.78, No.652: The Prophet (s) was asked, "Who are the best people?" He replied, "The people of my generation, and then those who will follow (come after) them, and then those who will come after them; after that there will come some people whose witness will precede their oaths and their oaths will go ahead of their witness."

Note: these generations of Muslims are referred to as the "salafus-Sālih" (the righteous predecessors) 

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.78, No.657: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Allāh forgives my followers those evil deeds their souls may whisper or suggest to them as long as they do not act (on it) or speak (of it)."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.78, No.660: A man entered the masjid and prayed while Allāh's Apostle was sitting in the masjid. Then (after finishing the prayer) the man came to the Prophet and greeted him. The Prophet said to him, "Go back and pray, for you have not prayed. The man went back, and having prayed, he came and greeted the Prophet. The Prophet after returning his greetings said, "Go back and pray, for you did not pray." On the third time the man said, "(O Allah's Apostle!) teach me (how to pray)." The Prophet said, "When you get up for the prayer, perform the ablution properly and then face the Qibla and say Takbir (Allahu Akbar), and then recite of what you know of the Quran, and then bow, and remain in this state till you feel at rest in bowing, and then raise your head and stand straight; and then prostrate till you feel at rest in prostration, and then sit up till you feel at rest while sitting; and then prostrate again till you feel at rest in prostration; and then get up and stand straight, and do all this in all your prayers."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.78, No.663: "Once Allāh's Apostle led us in prayer and after finishing the first 2 Rak`āt, got up (instead of sitting for At-Tahiyyat) and then carried on with the prayer. When he had finished his prayer, the people were waiting for him to say Tasleem, but before saying Tasleem, he said Takbeer and prostrated; then he sat up, said Takbeer and prostrated again, then sat and finished his prayer with Tasleem."

Notes: 

a.) This is the 2 sujood as-sahw, i.e., prostrations to make up for omitting a wājib act in the Salāh due to forgetting.

b.) For a salāh which has more than 2 rak`āt, if one forgets to sit for tashahhud, then this is made up by the sujood as-sahw.

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.78, No.680: "The (reward of) deeds, depend upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended. So whoever emigrated for the sake of Allah and His Apostle, then his emigration will be considered to be for Allah and His Apostle, and whoever emigrated for the sake of worldly gain or for a woman to marry, then his emigration will be considered to be for what he emigrated for."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.78, No.695: While the Prophet was delivering a sermon, he saw a man standing, so he asked about that man. They (the people) said, "It is Abu Isrā`īl who has vowed that he will stand and never sit down, and he will never come in the shade, nor speak to anybody, and will fast.'' The Prophet said, "Order him to speak and let him come in the shade, and make him sit down, but let him complete his fast."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.78, No.673: "Following are two utterances that are very easy for the tongue to say, and very heavy in the balance (of reward) and most beloved to the Gracious Almighty: subhan Allāhi wa biHamdihi subhan Allāhil-'AZeem"

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.80, No.717: "Beware of suspicion, for it is the worst of false tales and don't look for the faults of others; don't spy, don't hate each other, and don't desert (cut your relations with) one another. O Allāh's slaves, be brothers."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.81, No.793: Narrated by Ubāda ibn As-Sāmit "I gave the pledge of allegiance to the Prophet with a group of people, and he (sallAllāhu `alayhi wasallam) said, 'I take your pledge that you will not worship anything besides Allāh, will not steal, will not commit infanticide, will not slander others by forging false statements and spreading it; and will not disobey me in anything good. Whoever among you fulfill all these (obligations of the pledge), his reward is with Allāh. And whoever commits any of the above crimes and receives his legal punishment in this world, that will be his expiation and purification. But if Allāh screens his sin, it will be up to Allāh, Who will either punish or forgive him according to His wish.'..."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.8, Bk.82, No.798: Seven will be shaded by Allāh (in the intense heat) on the Day of Resurrection:

1) a just ruler,

2) a person who worshiped Allāh from a young age,

3) a person who remembers Allāh in seclusion and his eyes are then flooded with tears,

4) a man whose heart is attached to masjids,

5) two people who love each other for Allāh's sake,

6) a man who is called by a charming lady, of noble birth, to an illicit encounter and he says, 'I am afraid of Allāh', and (finally),

7) a person who gives in charity so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given.

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.85, No.74: "Whoever possesses these three qualities will have the sweetness of faith: 

1) The one to whom Allāh and His Apostle become dearer than anything else; 

2) who loves a person only for Allāh's sake; 

3) who hates to revert to atheism (disbelief) as he hates to be thrown into the Fire."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.85, No.83: "A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim. So he should neither oppress him nor hand him over to an oppressor. And whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allāh will fulfill his needs."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.85, No.84: Allāh's Apostle said, "Help your brother whether he is an oppressor or an oppressed," A man said, "O Allāh's Apostle! I will help him if he is oppressed, but if he is an oppressor, how shall I help him?" The Prophet said, "By preventing him from oppressing (others), for that is how to help him."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.87, No.114: If anyone of you sees a good dream, then it is from Allāh, and he should thank Allāh for it and narrate it to others; but if he sees a bad dream, then it is from Satan, and he should seek refuge with Allāh from its evil, and he should not mention it to anybody, for it will not harm him.

Al-Bukhārī, Vol. 9, Bk.87, No.144: There are three types of dreams:

1) the reflection of one's thoughts and experiences one has during wakefulness,

2) what is suggested by Satan to frighten the dreamer, or

3) glad tidings from Allāh.

So, if someone has a dream which he dislikes, he should not tell it to others, but get up and offer a prayer.

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.88, No.206: Hudhaifa bin Al-Yaman narrated: "The people used to ask Allāh’s Messenger (saws) about the good, but I used to ask him about the evil for fear of it reaching me.. So I said, 'O Allāh's Messenger, we were living in ignorance and in an (extremely) bad atmosphere, then Allāh brought to us this good (i.e., Islam); will there be any evil after this good?' He said, 'Yes.' I said, 'Will there be any good after that evil?' He replied, 'Yes, but it will be tainted (not pure)'' I asked, 'What will be its taint?' He replied, '(There will be) some people who will guide others not according to my tradition. You will approve of some of their deeds and disapprove of some others.'..."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.88, No.224: "If Allāh sends punishment upon a nation then it befalls upon the whole population indiscriminately and then they will be resurrected (and judged) according to their deeds."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol. Volume 9, Book 88, Number 237: "The Hour will not be established until: 

1) two big groups fight each other whereupon there will be a great number of casualties on both sides and they will be following one and the same religious doctrine, 

2) about thirty Dajjals (liars) appear, and each one of them will claim that he is Allah's Apostle, 

3) the religious knowledge is taken away (by the death of Religious scholars), 

4) earthquakes will increase in number, 

5) time will pass quickly, 

6) afflictions will appear, 

7) Al-Harj (i.e., killing) will increase, 

8) wealth will be in abundance, so abundant that a wealthy person will worry lest nobody should accept his Zakāt, and whenever he will present it to someone, that person (to whom it will be offered) will say, 'I am not in need of it, 

9) the people compete with one another in constructing high buildings, 

10) a man when passing by a grave of someone will say, 'Would that I were in his place', 

11) the sun rises from the west. So when the sun will rise and the people will see it (rising from the west) they will all believe (embrace Islām) but that will be the time when: (As Allāh said,) 'No good will it do to a soul to believe then, if it believed not before, nor earned good (by deeds of righteousness) through its Faith.' (6.158) ..." 

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.88, No.224: "If Allāh sends punishment upon a nation then it befalls upon the whole population indiscriminately and then they will be resurrected (and judged) according to their deeds."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.89, No.252: "Every one of you is a guardian and is responsible for his charges: the ruler of the people is a guardian and is responsible for his subjects; a man is the guardian of his family and is responsible for his household; a woman is the guardian of her husband's home and children and is responsible for them; and the slave is a guardian of his master's property and is responsible for it. Surely, everyone is a guardian and responsible for their charges."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.89, No.255: "Do not wish to be like anyone, except in two cases: 

1) A person whom Allāh has given wealth and he spends it righteously. 

2) A person whom Allāh has given wisdom (knowledge of the Qur'ān and the Hadeeth) and he acts according to it and teaches it to others."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.89, No.264: "Any man to whom Allāh has given the authority of ruling some people and he does not look after them in an honest manner, will never even smell the scent of Paradise."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.90, No.341: "None of you should long for death, for if he is a good person, he may increase his good deeds, and if he is an evil-doer, he may stop the evil deeds and repent."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.90, No.334: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "If I had gold equal to the mountain of Uhud, I would love that, before 3 days had passed, not a single Dinar thereof remained with me if I found somebody to accept it, excluding some amount that I would keep for the payment of my debts.''

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.90, No.343: "Do not long for meeting your enemy, and ask Allāh for safety (from all sorts of evil)."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.92, No.378: Allāh's Apostle said, "I have been sent with 'Jawami-al-Kalim ' (conciseness of speech; conveying many meanings in a few words) and have been made victorious with awe cast in my enemy's hearts; and while I was sleeping, I saw that the keys of the treasures of the world were placed in my hand." 

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.92, No.382: "The best speech is the book of Allāh (al-Qur'an), and the best way is the way of Muhammad (ﷺ), and the worst matters are the bid'āt (newly invented things added to the religion); and whatever you have been promised will surely come to pass, and you cannot escape it."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.92, No.384: Allāh's Apostle (ﷺ) said, "All my followers will enter Paradise except those who refuse." The companions asked, "O Allāh's Apostle! Who will refuse?" He said, "Whoever obeys me will enter Paradise, and whoever disobeys me is the one who refuses to enter it."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.92, No.415: "If Allāh wants to do a favour to somebody, He bestows on them the gift of understanding the Qur'an and Sunnah."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.92, No.422: The Prophet (ﷺ) warned that many of us from his ummah will deviate by following the ways of the 'people of the earlier scriptures' (Jews & Christians), so much so "that even if they entered a hole of a mastigure (lizard)," we would follow them.

Note: reflect on the real-life examples of this warning... the majority of the 'people of the earlier scriptures' have:

1) abandoned the hijāb,

2) disregarded the prohibition of relationships before marriage,

3) abandoned (regular) prayer,

4) discounted enjoining good & forbidding evil,

5) ignored seeking religious knowledge,

6) neglected teachings of their prophets & relied on their own understanding of religion,

7) innovated celebrations & designated certain days as "special" (birthdays, anniversaries) with no evidence from the religion,

8) gone to immodest manners of celebrations contrary to religious ways (e.g. weddings),

...How close have we followed them?  Allāhumma yā muqallibal quloob, thabbit quloobana 'alā deenik.

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.92, No.448: Allāh's Apostle (ﷺ) said, "Nooh will be brought (before Allāh) on the Day of Resurrection and will be asked, 'Did you convey the message of Allāh?" He will reply, 'Yes, O Lord.' Then Nooh's nation will be asked, 'Did he convey Allāh's message to you?' They will reply, 'No warner came to us!' Then Nooh will be asked, 'Who are your witnesses?' He will reply. 'Muhammad and his followers.' Thereupon you (Muslims) will be brought and you will bear witness." Then the Prophet recited: "And thus We have made of you (Muslims) a just and the best nation, that you might be witness over the nations, and the Apostle a witness over you." (al-baqarah 2:143)

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.93, No.469: When the Prophet (sallAllāhu'alayhi wasallam) sent Muādh to Yemen, he said to him, "You are going to a nation from the people of the Scripture, so let the first thing to which you will invite them be the Tawheed of Allāh. If they learn that, tell them that Allāh has enjoined on them five prayers to be offered in one day and one night. And if they pray, tell them that Allāh has enjoined on them Zakāt of their properties and it is to be taken from the rich among them and given to the poor. And if they agree to that, then take from them Zakāt but avoid the best property of the people."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.93, No.473: Allāh's Apostle (sallAllāhu'alayhi wasallam) said, "Allāh will not be merciful to those who are not merciful to mankind."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.93, No.475: The Prophet (sallAllāhu'alayhi wasallam) said, "None is more patient than Allāh against the harmful and annoying words He hears (from the people): They ascribe children to Him, yet He bestows upon them health and provision."

Al-Bukhārī, Vol.9, Bk.93, No.552: The Prophet (sallAllāhu'alayhi wasallam) said, "A group of my followers will keep on following Allāh's Laws strictly and they will not be harmed by those who will disbelieve them or stand against them till Allāh's Order (the Hour) will com e while they will be in that state."
