Fourth of July is coming up, depending on when you read this I suppose, and one of the mainstays of this holiday is the fireworks display. Even if you're reading this and July 4th has already come to pass, there's probably another holiday or event coming up where fireworks are involved. I've had various people in the past ask me how to take kick ass fireworks photos, so I figured I'd make a video tutorial showing you how. Don't worry, if you don't feel like watching the video, then keep on reading. :)

The key to awesome fireworks photos is really long exposures. There's a few things you need gear wise, but you can make do with a relatively simple (and cheap) setup. Other than your camera, the most important thing you'll need is a tripod. If you don't have a tripod, that's okay, just find a way to stabilize your camera somehow. Maybe rest it on a wall or fence of some sort or even lay your camera on the ground (gasp!) and point upwards towards the fireworks display. The more stable the better and you can even use those shitty tripods you get at best buy for like $30 and they'll do just fine... As long as there aren't any hurricane type winds or anything :P.

Ninety percent of the battle comes from preplanning and the next bit of gear is part of that. Your lens choice is crucial not so much for how "fast" or wide open the aperture can get, but rather what focal length you choose to use. If you're trying to incorporate the scenery like that Niagara Falls shot above, then it be in your best interest to bring a wide angle lens along. If you're only looking to shoot fireworks on a black background in the sky, a longer lens might be more beneficial instead. If you don't know what the place looks like you're going to yet, then make sure you bring lenses along with a wide array of focal lengths just to make sure you're covered. If you have a mega zoom then even better. While the better the lens you use, the better the photos will turn out, you can still take sweet photos with your kit lens since you won't be needing a fast lens.

Now that your camera is all set up physically, lets get to the settings. You can shoot in shutter priority if you'd like or manual mode if you want some more control, but the key is having control over the shutter speed over anything else. You'll want a longer shutter speed, anywhere from a half of a second and longer, to give the fireworks that cool light trail look to them. If you're in manual mode then set the ISO to the lowest setting you can. The more colorful noise introduced into the exposure, the worse your colorful fireworks are gonna look.

Last thing I wanna mention is to pay attention to your environment before the fireworks begin. Pick a location where there won't be any interference in front of the fireworks display. The above photo has these black lines going through the middle of them because, unbeknownst to me at the time, I was actually shooting through some telephone wires. I couldn't see the wires because the sky was black and I didn't notice it until after I got home and looked at them on a bigger screen. Just something to watch out for. That's it, just press the shutter and enjoy the show ^_^.

Maybe can do it on my own on the test server once I take recordings of the two fireworks not available on the regular server. Will see how it goes but will only happen much later once all the other fireworks videos are uploaded to complete the series.

Well most cases I use fireworks to shoot at people while I also might salvage their wrecks and other similar stuff just in case they feel the need to retaliate by setting their safeties to red and shoot me in exchange, which is a method that granted me quite a few killrights over the years.

But in general when I perform fireworks shows I usually load up a bunch of the small fireworks and use them in 3-6x launchers while also shooting large fireworks from 1-4x launchers and bring a healthy mix of them where the amount depends on how many I have them in total, so if have more of them I bring more if less then only a couple but use all the large fireworks that I have at the moment to make the showcase the more exciting.

Well, for one, you might not love the way those awesome fireworks look on your phone when filming with everything set to auto. Avoid disappointing results this Fourth with these 10 secrets to capturing stellar footage of fireworks displays using your phone.

Locking the exposure on your phone is the way to go. On iOS, aim the camera at the fireworks, or a similar bright source of light, against the dark sky, and tap and hold your finger on that area until the AE/AF lock symbol appears on the screen. This will prevent your phone from struggling to adapt to the changing lighting conditions during the display. You might want to try locking it a few times until you get the result you want.

Zooming in on the fireworks will create lots of visual noise in your frame since the zoom is digital, not optical. Try to get to the event early instead so you can get a better vantage point and avoid zooming entirely.

If you have a fancy rig for your phone with an external microphone, you might have better luck than most capturing the exciting snaps, crackles and pops of fireworks exploding in the sky. The built-in microphone is unlikely to be up to the challenge in this instance, so consider editing out the sound entirely, and replacing it with patriotic or upbeat music.

From the sizzle of the fuse to the boom and burst of colors, this video brings you all of the exciting sights and sounds of Fourth of July fireworks, plus a little chemical knowhow. John A. Conkling, Ph.D., shows how the familiar rockets and other neat products that light up the night sky all represent chemistry in action.

The iPhone can record amazing time lapse video, so why not capture the entire fireworks show in a time lapse? The iPhone time lapse feature is quite smart and works really well, and the longer the video capture time you feed it, the better the results. If you have enough space available on the iPhone, try to capture the entire firework show in time lapse, then crop the video down later to shorten the clip.

The mischief was recorded on videos posted on social media. The videos showed two teens lighting a fireworks canister and running off as it fires upward. The videos were recorded from two different angles.

The fireworks hit and damaged a glass skylight and caused workers at a store to usher customers inside and close its metal security gate, fearing the bang was gunfire. There were no reported injuries.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara said Wednesday afternoon that his department's response was an improvement from last year, when similar fireworks-related chaos occurred, and multiple people were shot on the Stone Arch Bridge.

A high proportion of pet dogs show fear-related behavioural problems, with noise fears being most prevalent. Nonetheless, few studies have objectively evaluated fear expression in this species. Using owner-provided video recordings, we coded behavioural expressions of pet dogs during a real-life firework situation at New Year's Eve and compared them to behaviour of the same dogs on a different evening without fireworks (control condition), using Wilcoxon signed ranks tests. A backwards-directed ear position, measured at the base of the ear, was most strongly associated with the fireworks condition (effect size: Cohen's d = 0.69). Durations of locomotion (d = 0.54) and panting (d = 0.45) were also higher during fireworks than during the control condition. Vocalisations (d = 0.40), blinking (d = 0.37), and hiding (d = 0.37) were increased during fireworks, but this was not significant after sequential Bonferroni correction. This could possibly be attributed to the high inter-individual variability in the frequency of blinking and the majority of subjects not vocalising or hiding at all. Thus, individual differences must be taken into account when aiming to assess an individual's level of fear, as relevant measures may not be the same for all individuals. Firework exposure was not associated with an elevated rate of other so-called 'stress signals', lip licking and yawning. 2351a5e196
