The short version
FinHaven is a companion for people who keep freshwater aquariums. It has no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics and no advertising. We never learn who you are, and we have no server that receives what you do in the app.
What stays on your device
Your tank profile, the species you add to it, care programme progress, opened guides, AquaSage conversations and earned pearls are written to files inside the app's own private folder on your iPhone or iPad. They are not synced, uploaded or shared. Removing the app removes every one of these files with it.
The AquaSage and OpenAI
The AquaSage tab is powered by OpenAI's chat completions service using the gpt-4o-mini model, reached through FinHaven's own service credentials. You do not need an account or an API key. Nothing is sent anywhere until you ask a question, run a diagnosis or request stocking ideas; at that moment the text you typed, the symptoms you ticked and a plain summary of your tank (volume, water values, species list) travel to OpenAI so it can compose the answer. No device identifiers, no names and nothing from other tabs are included. OpenAI processes that content under its own policy: https://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy. If you never use AquaSage, the app makes no network requests at all.
Reminders
If you switch reminders on, the app asks iOS for permission and schedules gentle local notifications about care tasks. Scheduling happens entirely on the device; no notification service of ours is involved.
Nothing we can see, nothing we need to delete
Because we hold no copy of your data, there is nothing for us to export, correct or erase on your behalf. Clearing the app in Settings with Reset All Data, or uninstalling it, is the complete deletion.
Younger keepers
FinHaven is not aimed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect anything from them. It collects nothing from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If the way the app handles information ever changes, this page will be revised and the date at the top will move. Continued use after a revision means the revised text applies.
