Why Do You Want to Have a Great Smile?

I cannot stress the importance of a good smile enough. I know, I know—I’m a dentist, so I HAVE to stress the importance of great teeth, but aside from that, as a professional and as an individual member of society, I am telling you that a smile is one of the most important aspects of your entire being. It is one of the first things that people notice about you, and as such, makes one of the first impressions of you in the minds of others.

That being said, you want your smile to be the best it can be, that way it shows others that you are striving to be the best that you can be. If you’re unhappy with your smile, others will notice that, and will doubt not just your level of confidence, but your abilities as well.

Moreover, it won’t be just others that begin to doubt your abilities—but YOU’LL begin to doubt your own abilities also. You’ll experience decreased self-esteem, less forward movement in your professional life and less satisfaction in your personal life.

Don’t believe what I’m saying?

A poll of 1000 people between the ages of 18 and 50 years old revealed the following:

· A great smile can make you more approachable and friendly

· A great smile is a great ice-breaker

· A great is contagious and can evoke a similar expression from the person you’re meeting.

Luckily, getting a great smile is relatively easy these days. With quick, painless treatments such as tooth whitening, implants, crowns and other restorative treatments, we can create the smile that will make a world of difference in your professional and personal life.

Imagine waking up in the morning, on your toes and ready for the workday.

You shower, get dressed to impress, have a cup of coffee—and possibly a bowl of cereal—and then you make one more pit stop in the bathroom to brush your teeth before heading out the door. When you’re done rinsing, you stand tall and erect in front of the mirror and smile at yourself. Your confidence plummets.

What you see is NOT the hallmark of a successful, confident, put together individual. What you see is a gap-toothed smile – crooked teeth – discoloration – mayhem.

When did your smile begin to deteriorate, you wonder? What happened to the healthy, youthful smile you remember? Was it replaced overnight with this grimace?

As you begin to think about it, you realize that maybe it HAS been a while since you’ve recognized your smile, and even longer since you’ve seen a dental professional.

Possible Causes for Smile Deterioration

Disease:

Disease can creep up on a smile when you’re not looking, and neglecting to treat that disease can be the final nail in the coffin for your oral health, because once disease sneaks in, it moves fast. Gingivitis, periodontitis, dental carries, occlusal disease—each and every one of these diseases can lead to swollen and bleeding gums, bad breath, cracked teeth and, eventually, tooth loss. If you haven’t been to the dentist in a while and you’ve noticed a chronic bad taste in your mouth or experienced swollen or sore gums, bleeding gums or anything remotely out of the ordinary, chances are disease is what happened to your smile.

Damage:

Another possibility is that you chipped, cracked, broke or lost a tooth and you were too busy to fix or replace it. If you cracked, broke or chipped a tooth and didn’t fix it, bacteria may have snuck in and compromised the structure of not just your cracked tooth, but of the teeth around it as well. If you lost a tooth and didn’t replace it, the surrounding teeth may have tried to move into its place.

A lot can go wrong when you ignore major dental issues such as disease, breaks and tooth loss, and eventually, fixing your smile becomes much more complicated than curing a slight symptom, fixing a single broken tooth or replacing a single lost tooth. But it’s not impossible.

Full-Mouth Reconstruction

No matter how neglected your smile has been, it’s never too late to turn it around. Full-mouth reconstruction is a viable option, as it provides a solution that will address all of your issues and concerns.

At Milwaukee Dental Implants, we understand that just the term “full-mouth reconstruction” is enough to want to send you running for the hills, but trust us when we say—it’s not as intense as it sounds, and it’s certainly well worth the time and effort that goes into it. The sole purpose of a full-mouth reconstruction is to repair old, worn out dental work, remove decay and replace missing teeth—all of which needs to be done if you hope to have the smile of your youth once again.

What your full-mouth reconstruction treatment plan will look like will all depend on what you’re your photographs and x-rays tell us. We may determine that you need a crown, inlay or onlay to repair some of the damage. We may decide that a bridge, partial, denture or implant is the best option. In extreme instances, extraction is required. However, whatever your treatment plan consists of, we’ll make sure that you’re comfortable throughout the entire process—whether it lasts for 6 hours, 6 weeks or 6 months.
