There's a bit more mysterious mysticism here, with my character beset by dreams teasing at a horrible corruption spreading across the world and murdering whole towns. Within a few hours it's a far cry from the intro that paints you as a glorified fantasy UPS driver.

Yasumi Matsuno is no stranger to fan demands. The Final Fantasy Tactics director has been answering pleas for a remaster or sequel to the original tactics RPG for what feels like forever now. This time, all it took for the demands to once again resurface was Matsuno simply tweeting out a picture of his copy of Unicorn Overlord, as seen below.

Fae Tactics is turn-based wizard whacking in the same vein as the much-beloved Final Fantasy Tactics series, which is one of the few classic FF spin-offs that has somehow managed to bypass coming to PC throughout its long, if slightly spotty history. It's effectively to Final Fantasy Tactics what Wargroove was to aggrieved Advance Wars fans - a game which scratches that nostalgic, pixellated tactics itch while bringing it up to date for modern PC players.

For me, it's all just a bit much. Final Fantasy Tactics fans of yore might dig all this nitty-gritty minutiae of old school turn-based tactics games, but I simply don't have the energy or the persistence to keep track of everything that's going on in Fae Tactics. I can see how I might start enjoying myself more if I kept playing to the point where I'd mastered them, but I also know it's going to take a heck of a long time to get there.

I might like it more if it didn't take so long to get anything done. I've played far more ponderous tactics games in the past, and most enemies do tend to fall over quickly once you're in position. But this isn't like Into The Breach where spending 15 minutes deciding what move to make is as instantly thrilling as watching said decision play-out onscreen. Just getting Fae Tactics' units into position is too drawn-out for my liking, and to make matters worse you're encouraged to play slowly, too, because some of your units get stronger as the game goes on.

Chrono Clash is a blend of classic tactical roleplaying enhanced with enhanced with dynamic action sequences.

Battle across over 50 maps and missions. Customize your heroes' weapons, armor and skills with over 100 skills, 20 job classes and 200 different items.

Gameplay:

Direct your squad of heroes to take advantage of positioning and timing. Flank enemies or attack them from high ground with ranged weapons.

Clever tactics and strategy will allow you to overcome stronger foes even when outnumbered. Play with either a dynamic camera or traditional isometric camera view.

Story:

The Kingdom of Tevalles in turmoil after the King's death. As the new leader of your mercenary company, you are thrust into the intrigue behind the power struggles of the nobility. Recruit other heroes and embark on a journey to change your fate and fortune.

Parents need to know that combat is a crucial component of this game, but that it's turn-based so that while you plan it, you don't directly participate in it. The battle animations are not overly graphic. The game offers a compelling fantasy world with loads of depth and replayability. The characters are squat, noseless, and very ... cute.

The Final Fantasy series of video games is very popular, but only older fans remember the game's brief foray into the smaller "tactics" genre. Now new fans can explore the "tactics" version with FINAL FANTASY: THE WAR OF THE LIONS. It's the original 10-year-old game with new stuff added, everything updated, and the gameplay intact -- now presented in a portable form for the Sony PSP handheld. For those new to the genre, a tactics game, particularly one like this one with role-playing elements, demands a lot of strategic brain power. You must read a lot, constantly fiddle with your characters' stats and equipment, and pay close attention to the weaknesses of your enemy.

Families can talk about whether playing a medieval fantasy game sparks interest or questions about real medieval history. How do you feel about the "might makes right" nature of this kind of game? How did you solve particular problems and difficult missions in the game? Also, the characters are cute and child-like -- how do their looks affect your response to the game?

Hi! I've been trying to work out a conversion for the final fantasy tactics game into pathfinder, I don't think it should be that hard to achieve since most base classes emulate most of the jobs in final fantasy tactics.

Magic

Spoiler:

Magic is an important element in the lives of many people in Ikkoku. While not all people use it, magic is not uncommon either. Prior to the Fifty Year War, the use of magic was often the realm of the privileged nobles, adventurers, and the clergy. The successful use of magic in the Fifty Year War has changed this. Nearly all armies of Ikkoku's three kingdoms now populate their troops with mages in numerous support roles from Black Mages that specialize in using earth magic in siege tactics to White Mages that act to heal wounded troops. There are a number of different mage units that emerged during the Fifty Year War that made a name for themselves such as Tomas' Hammers of Ordallia that wreaked havoc on the strongest fortresses in Zeltennia or St. Mary's Mercy who were always in the bloodiest battles trying to save those soldiers in the war who could be saved. Since mages get paid well for a soldier, most of the three continents are rarely unable to find a fresh supply of magic talent. Most large cities have at least one academy for magic related studies and capital cities such as Lesalia Capitol City in Ivalice may support as many as three to six academies devoted solely to arcane studies. Most soldiers that make fighting as their occupation often dabble into the arts at some point in their career either during their training or during their later years provided they live long enough.

I don't have any comments on your design work. I just wanted to make you aware that there's some concept art floating around from a cancelled action rpg in the world of final fantasy tactics. Check out Jocke's character work Here. (You need to scroll down to the 'Fortress' project.) There are a couple of environments at Tomislav's page as well. I know I've seen some other stuff as well, but sadly I can't remember any names. 0852c4b9a8
