Fiber is a carbohydrate made from long - chain of sugar molecules. Unlike other carbohydrates, fiber can resists digestion in the stomach and manage to reach the large intestine without any changes.
There are two types of fibers; (I) soluble in water and (ii) insoluble in water.
The water-soluble fiber can be found in the fruits and root vegetables. Dissolving water-soluble fiber in water will resulting in a thick gel.
Its function is to prevent constipation through softening the stool.
The water-insoluble fibers are found in grains, nuts, apple peels, and seeds. Dissolving insoluble fibers in water will form small, fine, powdery fragments that increases the weight of the stool and dilute the toxins in the stool.
