Cancun is one of the best spot on earth to dive: it's in the Caribbean sea, has colorful reefs with a fantastic underwater life, impressive shipwrecks, unique cenotes and the MUSA (Underwater Museum), which is the largest underwater installation art in the world.
Not certified? No problem! You can do your DSD (Discover Scuba Diving) here!
DSDs are meant to allow non-certified divers try real open-water diving. Open Water-certified divers can dive to 18 meters, a DSD can only go down to 9 meters. It's a shallow dive for safety reasons, but it's still plenty deep to enjoy the experience.
A DSD includes a basic course on how to use the dive equipment, and a quick practice at the docks before heading out. Note that if people are unsure as to whether or not they will like it, or be able to dive, they can get up until this point and say 'no' to diving. If they do, they get half the cost of the activity back.
The three options people have for a DSD are:
2 Tanks - MUSA & Reef
1 Tank - MUSA
1 Tank - Reef
Note: diving in shallow water also has its advantages! You get more 'bottom time'. The basic explanation is that the deeper you dive, the less you can stay in the water, so 'normal' dive is usually 25-35 minutes, a dive in 9 meters water can easily be 45 minutes to an hour.
You can also do your PADI Open Water Certification
Learn the basic skills to become an independent diver. Cancun is the perfect place to do your PADI Certification. The weather is ideal all year long, it's cheaper than most other places of the world, and the underwater life is exceptional. As a diving certificate is valid all life long, you won't need to do it twice and you'll already have it for next places you will dive if you keep travelling.
