Bolster Field Hockey is pleased to announce the NCAA Division I 2022 PLAYER OF THE YEAR award winner.
2022 PLAYER OF THE YEAR PRESENTED BY SKILLZMACHINE: As an attacker with the University of North Carolina, Erin Matson finished the season with 28 goals, 10 assists, and a national championship. Her goals per game average of 1.33, tied Matson for first in the nation. Underscoring her accomplishments is that her team played the third most difficult schedule in Division I field hockey. Matson is the ACC's all-time career leader in goals and points. This is the second time Bolster Field Hockey has announced this annual award and, thus far, Matson is the only winner.
Matson was also named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year for the fifth year in a row – the only student-athlete in conference history to win a player of the year honor five times. She won the 2022 NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player award – she scored twice and assisted on the other goal in a 3-0 win over Penn State in the semifinals then scored the game winner in the 2-1 victory vs Northwestern in the championship. During the 2022 regular season, Matson was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week five times and the National Offensive Player of the Week three times.
Matson is a member of the U.S. National Outdoor Team. She graduated from Unionville High School, Chadds Ford, PA, and played club hockey with W.C. Eagles.
The Bolster Field Hockey Player of the Year award is presented by SkillzMachine, SkillzMachine.com, a training platform that helps field hockey and ice hockey athletes improve neural pathways, muscle memory, stick speed, and ball/puck control actions.
